It’s been a good time recently for reggae versions of unlikely songs, with everyone from The White Stripes to Madonna getting the covers treatment, not to mention a fair few under-the-counter blends. Overproof Soundsystem – a Birmingham based reggae collective consisting of members of G Corp and Rockers Hi-Fi, amongst others – take things a step further, releasing their hugely popular live version of Kraftwerk’s “The Model”, re-wording the vocals slightly for a reggae context, the horns and melodica really carrying the melody along like they were made for it. Not only but also, the 12″ is a great (and cheap) way to get hold of their earlier roots cut, “Watch What You Put Inna”. Check it out – you’ll be surprised how well this cover really works.
