Mental Overdrive
You Are Being Manipulated
Love OD / Smalltown Supersound

It’s great having Norwegian techno pioneer Per Martinsen back as Mental Overdrive again, dropping his analogue trousers and letting fly with such sonic mischief-makers as ‘Elephantastic’, which still sounds like a herd of flatulent beasts holding their own lysergic kneesup. But that’s only one facet of his electronic arsenal, tracks like ‘Europa’ heading into cinematic realms while ‘Molina’s Theme’ imbues its clanking techno lines with ravey riffs and Giorgio’s Moroder’s garden hose. For sheer dancefloor destruction, ‘Spooks’ [previously released on Prins Thomas’ Full pupp label last year] kicks up a riotous tech-house surge hung with twinkling, flickering synth action. Apart from his eclectic electronic visions, Per keeps an all-important sense of humour bubbling away as well. Why else would he cover Iron Maiden’s ‘Run For The Hills’?
