Although emerging from his native Greece to make an impression aboard labels including Bedrock, Audio Therapy and Vapour, Yannis Douskos presents a different, more natural, downtempo-slanted flow on his follow-up album to his 2005 D.I.Y. debut. Tracks like the opening ‘Touch Me Light Mama’ weld blues vocals over breaks, somewhat recalling Moby, while ‘Serenata Deluxe’ ventures into slinky jazz territory with cool piano and trumpet tones. When house looms it’s gorgeously deep, as on the spare, swelling pads of ‘Dreamhill’ or squelchy ‘K.O. Lee’. He deserves full credit for taking various diversions such as  delicate piano-strings instrumental ‘Fat Princess’ or cinematic sweep of ‘The Place’ while ‘Loose’ begins as a 12-bar guitar blues, followed by ‘Dolly”s intriguing take on Louis Armstrong’s classic. In case he’s steering too far out, Dousk lets rip the acid techno-flavoured ‘Pentatonic’. A brave statement well worth a dabble.
