The Laughing Light Of Plenty
The Rose
Whatever We Want

The pick of three equally worthy releases just released on NY’s Whatever We Want records, The Laughing Light Of Plenty is Thomas Bullock (probably better known as half of both Rub n Tug and Map Of Africa) and Eddie Ruscha, getting slightly left of centre with two disco hybrids.  “The Rose” merges balearic disco guitar with weirded out electronics and psych sensibilities, the low-slung 4/4 groove neatly pushing the half-whispered / half-sung vocals into the setting sun.  Kind of what you’d imagine The Stone Roses would sound like if they travelled back in time and followed the Rolling Stones into Studio 54.  “Listen Here” is a straight unabashed pop gem with oddball electro moments – one listen and you’re hooked.   This label’s releases are always hideously limited with no represses, so if you see it, snap it up.
