Trailering their Revolving Doors album comes this urgent, staccato belter which recalls anyone from Joy Division to the Bad seeds. The mighty Chicken Lips enter first to shake proceedings into one of their sublime outings which recently have been harking more to classic Chicago house, as they do here with Mr Fingers riff-mutant acting as a bed for the histrionic vocal. The Instrumental is simple but deadly while a pair of dubs take different routes, the Dub Mix Instrumental injecting Detroit flavours. Then Midfield General, aka Skint founder Damian Harris, leaps off on a tech-house trail in both vocal and dub incarnations. Black Mike, aka Bloc Party/Primals producer Paul Epworth’s enhineer Mark Rankin, twists up deep electro elements with good use of the cowbell. The Shoes home in on the song itself, completing a worthy package.
