Crazy P
Stop Space Return
2020 Vision

The men formerly known as Crazy Penis return on the mighty 2020 with a sublime beauty of an album [their fourth] which rears head and shoulders above the pack for sheer classic disco quality. Bulging with proper songs harking back to New York’s 80s boogie heyday, most intoxicatingly, Chic’s under-rated later period, its further distinguished by the soulful vocals of Danielle Moore, a real find who joins original members James Baron [keys] and guitarist Chris Todd, alongside bassist Tim Davies and drummer Matt Klose to make up a firing unit who can now take it to the stage with equally-as-deadly effect. Chris has got the sexy scrub of Nile Rodgers’ guitar style down to a fine art on tracks like ‘Lie Lost’, the glorious ‘Too Far’ and ‘Wishing For’ with its cool D-Train synth-swirls while the title track recalls the icy majesty of Joi Cardwell on Lil Louis’ Journeys With The Lonely album. Elsewhere, funk and disco celebration rule but in a controlled-dynamite fashion, ‘In And Out’ recalling another golden NYC age with its jazzy garage piano-cavortings. Amidst all the laptop squaking currently doing the rounds this is a gorgeous affirmation of disco’s true power away from the glitterballs and definitely one of the albums of the year.
