City Of Reverb is the latest venture from Chris Coco and Sacha Puttnam, with vocalist Micky Buccheri fronting the project. It keeps the trademark chilled sounds of Coco’s production and adds a bit of meat in the form of loping bass (the excellent ‘Central Heating’) or percussion, with ‘Hedonist’ sounding like a slowed-down Underworld. The soundscapes are atmospheric, and occasionally the vocal takes on a quality similar to Turin Brakes – lightly soulful in the songwriting, but sometimes too close to lounge material. That said it’s a very listenable album – and works well in the nocturnal hours.
