This is definitely what’s needed to warm the cockles on a cold winter’s night, a bit of South American fire in the belly – recorded by Frenchmen of course. This beautifully packaged set of two takes two live sets from the Paris duo – firstly from the ‘Le Revancha del Tango’ tour of 2003, captured at the Forum, secondly the ‘Lunatico’ tour four years later in Neuchatel, Switzerland. Even if you have the albums this is where the music fully comes alive, the bandoneon in particular giving an exotic edge to the sound, though it’s complemented well by violin and keyboards. Some extended freeform sections bring a real edge to their versions of tracks like ‘Santa Maria (Del Buen Ayre)’, and the group should be commended for adding a few bonus session items, as well as ensuring there’s little crossover between the two discs. Some outstanding musicianship here – and a real sense of enjoyment through music.
