The original ‘Dirty Bird’ swoops in from his perch in San Francisco to deliver another of his typically quirky house mixes, incorporating his multi-styled approach as he does so. That is to say that while house is the main style, there’s a lot of other types of music hovering round the edges, best heard in a track like Robag Whrume’s ‘Gruppipepitsche’, with its brilliantly adapted walking bass. While the mix starts in bouncy fashion things soon get deeper and darker, which is where the real substance can be found – the likes of Xpansul & Daweed and Marc Houle contributing strongly to this. It’s clear Von Stroke has put a lot of thought, care and attention into the mixing of this, and he does well to clear the air at the end with his own eight minutes of deepness, ‘Aundy’. An invigorating mix, this, and something different for all types of dancefloor, not just house.
