Yesterday And Today

An intriguing concept, this – a CD of remixes by Kevin Saunderson, unmixed, and followed by a CD of other artists remixing his own stuff. So in a sense every track is a meeting of minds. Saunderson’s own remixes are in his style of classic house, and some of them are very fine indeed – particularly Ann Consuelo’s ‘Do It For Love’, with its irresistible bass line. Other notable inclusions are his remixes of the Wee Papa Girl Rappers’ ‘Heat It Up’, another classic house approach, and more recent offerings from Hercules And Love Affair and Simian Mobile Disco. The latter turn the tables on CD2 with an excellent remix of ‘Big Fun’, while Carl Craig takes ‘Till Me Meet Again’ to a higher level. Generally this is an excellent package, though one or two of the late ’90s remixes, such as the Lighthouse Family’s ‘High’, are a touch formulaic.
