The release of the Shapes compilations is always a welcome event from Tru Thoughts – crammed with killer exclusives, it’s a great way to find out what they’ve got in store for the near future. As the title suggests, this is the first collection of 2009, and it’s a must-have. Split across two CDs – CD1 ‘Shapes’ designed for warm-up / home listening, CD2 ‘DJ Tracks’ – contributions come from the likes of Stonephace, The Bamboos, Belleruche, Azaxx, Hint, Quantic, Spanky Wilson, the wonderful Hot 8 Brass Band, Natural Self and many, many more (29 tracks in total). Need any more convincing? It’s the only way you can presently get hold of Kjell’s devastating and apt D&B take of The Bamboo’s “Amen Brother” cover. Raw, funky sounds, through and through – you know when a Tru Thoughts artist is coming through the speakers.
