The Herbaliser Band
Session 2
!K7

It’s taken The Herbaliser eight years to follow up the acclaimed ‘Session 1’, but it’s been well worth the wait – and it’s not as if they’ve been idle in the intervening years. This sequel concentrates again on their ability to write full throated, brassy funk that sounds like it’s the incidental music to a long lost 1970s detective movie. With that in mind the extremely funky ‘Geddim’ works a treat, while the cinematic panorama of the smoky ‘Another Mother’, the sharp sax riff and rolling drums of ‘Theme From Control Centre’ and the nocturnal ‘Stranded On Earth’ are all highlights. The band are brilliant, throwing off their riffs with aplomb, and there’s a real feel of one studio take capturing all, the live approach really playing dividends.
