Deadmau5
For Lack Of A Better Name
Virgin

Rolling snares herald the second album from Deadmau5, who’s enjoying a high mainstream profile since signing up with Virgin. It means his music is now heard all over the radio, losing some of that gritty appeal that made it worthwhile scouring the internet for his latest production. It also means the ubiquitous guest vocalists have caught up with him, though Pendulum’s Rob Swire does a good turn on ‘Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff. Production is minimal, confident and punchy, though some of the tracks are too drawn out to be concentrated. That doesn’t go for ‘Soma’, mind, with its waves of sound, or the well constructed ‘The 16th Hour’, complete with roof raising trance riff. A work in progress – and thankfully one still worth following.
