To commemorate U.S. Record Store’s Vinyl Saturday (November 7th), LCD Soundsystem have done an excellent cover of Alan Vega’s “Bye Bye Bayou”. Kicking off with an irresistible funky groove that quite simply goes from strength to strength, driving the far out and soulful vocals, working it’s way through blasts of depthcharge dub, out of control helicopters, Spitfire snares and an underlying slightly sinister keyboard. As far as disco jams go, it don’t get better than this. “Bye Bye Bayou” is not going to be on LCD Soundsystem’s forthcoming album, so you better get it while you can, it’s pretty much guaranteed to float your boat. Superb.
