Joe Goddard has always felt like the one in Hot Chip with the dance music sensibilities, the electronic know-how. On his first solo album he proves this beyond doubt, showing off his versatility and affinity with dubstep, acid house and garage among others. He understands what makes people dance, and gets the necessary bounce into tracks like ‘Strawberry Jam’, while the excellent ‘Go Bananas’, with its “…and party and bullshit” hookline, is a hedonistic treat. Only ‘Lemon And Lime’ (Home Time) betrays his true origins with Hot Chip, a gorgeous early morning come down sung with true feeling. As you’ll have gathered, ‘Harvest Festival’ is an extremely well structured album, its production appealingly lo-fi and its objective to have fun.
