Back to Mine with Lazy Ants

Lazy Ants is an Italian duo with a penchant for electro, acid, techno and everything in between. Similarly unpredictable behind the decks as they are in the studio, their eclecticism shone through recently on their magnificent debut LP, Low Profile, which is out now on White Forest records. With all this in mind, they’re perfect candidates for out Back To Mine feature. We nabbed one half of the duo, Lauro, recently, as he talked us through some of his favourite such after party tracks…

Radioslave – The Revenge

A perfect tune for an after party. I really like the mix between the breakbeat groove and the straight 4/4 kick. The classic stabs make me think about Chicago house music. Love it!

Radio Slave - Revenge

Josh Wink – Higher State Of Consciuness

This track needs no presentation; it’s simply an acid house masterpiece. Alongside “Evil Acid”, it’s one of my all time favourites from the genre. The bass and the 303 slowly evolve into a distorted groove, and it’s perfect to mix in with the Radioslave track I just mentioned. A regular in my DJ sets and one that allows me to bring the set from house into techno with ease.

Boys Noize – Euphoria feat. Remy Banks

As far as I’m concerned, Boys Noize and Boys Noize Records are the most exciting thing to happen in techno over the past few years. I’m a huge fan of this crazy German boy and his releases. With this track, I like the nasty groove that brings me back to the classic acid house sound.

Nightmares On Wax – A Case Of Funk (Loco Dice Remix)

I just love Loco Dive and his grooves; they’re never predictable. The classic Baltimore loop here just drives me crazy. When I mix, I love to loop part of this track and mash it up with other tunes. This is a super catchy track that makes even my grandma dance!

Riva Starr – The Wickedest Sound

My favourite track of the moment. Riva Starr releases only amazing tunes and it’s an honour that he’s Italian (like me!). I have seen him DJ, and can never stay still when he’s on the decks. This track has an insane drop with reggae elements that makes you go bananas!

Tiga – Louder Than A Bomb (Dense & Pika Remix)

An instant classic. I’m a big Tiga and Dense & Pika fan. The heavy drums and pitched voice makes me think about rap and techno, and these are two of my favourites genres. The groove is just unbelievable. A real mosh pit track.

Ellen Allien – Landing XX

Another perfect after party track. It just seems never stop rising. Bpitch and Ellen Allien have been in my sets from day one. Landing XX is a pure techno track that’s simple and effective. The bass and the dark breaks and vocals make this tune an absolute hit.

Truncate – 7_1 (12 inch Mix)

Another of my favourite artists. I started following him when he was releasing on 50 weapons. I really like his Chicago sound and classic techno elements, a bit 90s but always fresh and distorted. A really great artist.

X22RME – X22RME

This is another artist that I’ve followed for a while. The dark and futuristic atmosphere – mixed with the hard groove – really makes me smile. It’s not an easy tune to listen to outside the club but it works perfectly in my sets. Alongside the Nathan Fake on Ninja Tune, it’s part of one of the albums of the year as far as I’m concerned…

Amnesia Scanner   – AS Crust

This is pure avant garde. Maybe one of the most interesting things released in the last two years. I like how they mashup the drum-like trap with dark techno elements. The pitched melodic voice in the track is hynotic and creepy too.
Amnesia Scanner is a must-hear project, and I can’t wait for the debut album after the EP to appear soon on Young Turks.
