In The Rain – The Dramatics
The lyrics are really reminiscent right now, “I wanna go outside in the rain” it rarely rains in Mexico City this time of year and the city is in lockdown, I love the use of rain and thunder in the track.
Back To Life – Soul II Soul
No explanation needed.
Giving Up – Gladys Knight And The Pips
My family used to go away for holidays to a family friend Carlos Juarez’s Hacienda outside of the city, he had the most amazing record collection, this is the first time I remember hearing this track.
Let’s Straighten It Out – O.V Wright
Another hit from the Hacienda 🙂 I’ve always been obsessed with this melody.
I (Who Have Nothing) – Ben E. King
The cinematic essence of this song and Ben E. Kings vocals here are super bien… I was listening to this at the Hacienda as a kid also.
Steal Away – Johnnie Taylor
When I was a kid I thought this song was about a thief 🙂
The Thrill has Gone – BB King
BB King and that guitar are just crazy.
Tomorrow – The Brothers Johnson
Quincy Jones at his finest.
Harlem – Bill Withers
RIP to one of my favorite artists of all time, the way this song builds is almost perfecto.
The End – The Doors
No mames, its the end of the playlist 🙂
Benito Bazar
Wednesday 20th of January, 2021 a new leader of the free world takes office whilst millions of doses of vaccine are being distributed around the globe – and with this, most of us have a renewed sense of hope that we can finally get “back to reality”.
So at this minute, debut artist Benito Bazar releases his reimagination of the timeless classic ‘Back To Life’ by the legendary Soul II Soul. More of an anthem for hope than political statement, ‘Back To Life’ soundtracks moments in all our lives this year that we feel our lives are finally back on track.
The masked Mexican-based DJ/producer lifts up the soulful voice of debut Nigerian-American singer, Tinuade, and is co-produced by Nicky Night Time (NAATIONS / Van She). Benito says of his release “‘Back To Life’ has always been one of my favourite tracks and seems more relative now than ever, I wanted to give this some new life and my utmost respect to one of the best records of all time”.To accompany the release, Benito will soon release a short film for ‘Back To Life’ – shot in Mexico City as the city’s painful initial 6 month COVID-19 lockdown was lifted. Directed by Hanna Beširević & Benito, the film documents this moment of world history intersecting personally with two skater teens in love getting “back to life”. Stay tuned for this beautiful short film in the weeks ahead, as well as remixes and the Benito Bazar ‘Mezcla’ mixtape.
‘Back To Life’ is out now on Austral Ave / Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
