LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge
(Chris) I had to include an LCD track and it’s hard to choose one. I love the rawness of the production and the superb lyrics. I always come back to this.
Boards of Canada – Roygbiv
(Chris) I was pretty obsessed with Boards of Canada for years. This is a huge fave of mine. Incredible synth work which always reminds me of a twisted John Carpenter film score.
Strand Of Oaks – This Must Be The Place
(Chris) I love this cover of one of my fave songs. It has a lovely warm sound and a very different take on the vocal. A lot of happy memories of this track.
Depeche Mode – Behind The Wheel (Shep Pettibone Remix)
(Chris) A fantastic simple bassline. And the drums. Well everything really. I love the original but this takes it up a notch.
Psychemagik – Valley of Paradise
(Chris) This was introduced to me by a great friend and DJ, Rob J. It was morning in our apartment in Croatia and I was dying from days of excess. It certainly had healing powers haha. What a fantastic piece of music.
Mkwaja Ensemble – Mkwaja
(Al) Japanese avant-garde jazz shizzle from the early 80’s that I can’t get enough of. I get totally lost in this.
Car Crash Set – Fall From Grace
(Al) 80’s Synth pop from New Zealand that was brought to my attention recently by a good mate. Excellent stuff.
Well Pleased & Satisfied/The Revolutionaries – Sweetie Come From America
(Al) A lot of reggae/dub gets played back at mine. This is a particular fave. The dub is rather lovely.

(Al) A haunting work of beauty from start to finish from one of the great songwriters of our time.

(Al) Classic 80’s R&B/Boogie that never fails to hit the spot, at home or out.
Field of Dreams – Rebuild (Tici Taci) Cat No: tt057
The Tici Taci label is back with another definitive slo-mo classic, this time from experienced duo Field of Dreams AKA Al Mackenzie and Chris Kentish. Duncan Gray’s label is a firm favourite of Andrew Weatherall who has already had access to this new track and dropped it at A Love From Outta Space at this year’s Convenanza festival, where it was a set highlight. The Birmingham pair behind Field of Dreams have a rich musical history which takes in national chart toppers alongside underground releases for the likes of Pleasure Unit and their own eponymously titled imprint. Together they have been turning out material that soundtracks ALFOS and other discerning dancefloors, including their stellar remix of Les Crocodiles’ ‘La Nuit Des Tropiques’.
The fantastic ‘Rebuild’ is a straight up acid house stomper with a strong message for the times. In the band’s own words, “It pays homage to the classic Chicago records of the past but with a futuristic twist. Being long-time fans of the ALFOS sound and ethos, releasing the track on Tici Taci – a label synonymous with the night – is a great privilege.”
Over the course of seven minutes the rugged drums and slapping hits come to life with an eco-system of sci-fi effects and alien synths as the groove drives forward. Darkened vocals recall early house music and make this a perfectly rough and ready chugger that really goes off once the snaking acid line appears. The Deconstructed Mix is a super slowed down dubquake that will rattle walls, ribs and fillings as the crisp hits and warped bass all encourage you to do slow motion gymnastics
