Back To Mine with Flatfoot Sam

Flatfoot Sam has been dabbling in the intricacies of music production ever since taking an interest in the Dance music from 18 years old. He kicked off his career with the releases of a few vinyl bangers in the early ’90s, which cemented his place in the industry. Shortly after, he found his feet in a new line of work – promoting dance parties. His admiration for dance music has trumped every other genre that the scene has to offer, Flatfoot Sam has always been beguiled by the beauty and emotion conveyed through the art of electronic dance music.  We caught up with Flatfoot Sam to see what his alltime favourites are…

The Prodigy – Weather Experience

This was off the album that was partly responsible for getting me into rave music by the Prodigy “Experience”. The album is a timeless masterpiece and this tune one of the jewels in its pimpstick.

The Prodigy Weather Experience

Gat Décor – Passion

Seriously, this is an early 90’s house classic. It is seen by many as the first progressive house track and has been remixed by many since (including some Herbert called Flatfoot Sam https://soundcloud.com/flatfootsam/gat-donkcore-passion/s-eOAvQlzqzSW). It has it all but essentially is a deeply cool progressive house banger well before the word banger was a twinkle in the eye of a descriptive word for a banger. It is unusual as the piano riff is one semitone adrift from the bassline which I found out the hard way

Faithless – Insomnia

Yeah I know it is well overplayed by now but it’s awesome so suck it up. Ironically, apparently Maxi Jazz is essentially a Buddhist now and sleeps like a baby.

Ludicivo Einaudi – Brothers

For a leading classical music legend this guy understands dance music – listen to the structure and tension in this track and see what I mean.

Y Traxx – Mystery Land

If you don’t know this then watch Kevin and Perry again. It’s beautiful Balearic unassuming trance which conjures sunsets, warmth and blissfulness.

Y Traxx - Mystery Land

Massive Attack – Heat Miser

Everything you want in an underground band. Dark and gritty but with melancholy and strangely uplifting too. The piano in it – OMG.

Massive Attack - Heat Miser

Underworld – Rez

Reminds me of clubbing comedowns a lifetime ago. So cool.

Breeze & Styles – Your Shining (Squad-E Mix)

Cheesy maybe, uplifting for sure, amazing banger of a hardcore tune RIP Wayne Donnelly.

Breeze & Styles - Your Shining

Rhythm On The Loose – Break of Dawn

Just everything you want from an old skool hardcore track. Reminds me of coming back from Yeovil having been clubbing all night with a smoke on and mates all listening to this watching the dawn breaking.

Rhythm On The Loose - Break Of Dawn (Original Version)

Kosheen – Damage

Definitely some influences on TripField right there.

“Thanks for this, I enjoyed digging these tracks out. As a music-lover of all genres I can say this is really hard to choose ten. Top one hundred would be difficult, but 10? Laters.”
