1. Gina Jeanz ft Mumbi Kasumba – Tropic City
There are no words to express how close this song is to my heart. Home sounds like pristine beaches and tranquillity whenever I play this. Gina Jeanz is one of my favourite producers.
2. Thandi Ntuli – What’s Left
I love jazz. I love Thandi Ntuli. That is all.
3. Sio – Retrospect
It’s difficult to choose a favourite from Sio’s debut album because I play it non-stop on repeat often. I had to close my eyes and open them where my finger landed, and it brought me here.
4. DJ Whisky & Jonny Miller ft Zaki Ibrahim – Lost It All (DJ Whisky Mix)
The incomparable Zaki Ibrahim says little in this song, but something about her voice beckons, “Come over here, sit by my side, everything is going to be alright.”
5. Peven Everett – Washing
I’ll go out on a limb and say I’m probably the biggest Peven Everett fan on earth. I bought his Power Soul album about 12 years ago and to this day, it’s my most cherished acquisition. This song goes well with the wines and dim lights.
6. Nathan Haines ft Verna Francis – Earth Is The Place (Atjazz Remix)
Gratitude to DJ Kitty Amor for introducing me to this track. The ritual goes; I press play, crank it up and dance around in circles in the middle of my bedroom till I’ve had enough.
7. Little Brother – Good Morning Sunshine
One of my favourite rap duos of all time, if I had this album on CD it would be scratched from playing it all day every day. The production, hooks and flows are pristine – starts to finish. This one’s for the morning after you come back to mine.
8. Mo Anando – In Bloom
Mo Anando’s “In Bloom” is my fail-safe when I get home after a long day and I’m undecided about what I need to ground me. It captured me from the first listen.
9. Greenteapeng – Medicine
Greenteapeng’s “Medicine” is all the balm I need in 3:03 minutes.
10. Yussef Dayes & Alfa Mist – Love Is Rhe Message
I have a soft spot for music that writes entire chapters without words. Yussef Dayes & Alfa Mist’s “Love is the Message” does exactly what is said on the tin.
