Back To Mine with Martin Brodin

Coldcut – Autumn Leaves (Irresistible Force Remix)

The ultimate chillout track in my ears. I’ve been listening to this so many times, in good and bad days. Always gives that calming factor. Simply put – BEAUTIFUL

Gaelle – Give It Back

Released on San Fransisco’s Naked Music label at the time when their trademark soulful house sound was at it’s peak. Well known for their compilations. And all of a sudden an album of Gaelle came out, and what an album it is. And one of the stand out tracks is Give It Back. Her vocal is one the smoothest in the world.

Stevie Wonder – Sunshine Of My Life

A simple choice to include this one. The song that I sang to my wife at our wedding. Gives me goosebumps listing to this. Has a special place in my heart.

Cloud One – Disco Juice

Patrik Adams is one of the best Disco producers of all time in my book. Under his different aliases he put out so many great Disco classics. Disco Juice is the smoothest, sexiest for me.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – Summertime

Is there any better summer theme? I don’t think so. They sampled Kool & The Gang – Summer Madness which could also be part of this list.

Daft Punk – Touch

A more recent track, but ever since its release, I’ve been listening to this track at least once a week. It features Paul Williams. It builds and builds… 8 minute epic tune!

Todd Terje feat Bryan Ferry – Johnny & Mary

Norwegian Nu-Disco king teams up with the koolest kat ever, Bryan Ferry. Here they cover Robert Palmer’s classic from 1980. A track full of emotions.

Yello – Rhythm Divine

My list could feature 10 songs of Yello. They were the biggest influence in my early years. I collected every record of them, and I mean EVERY!. But to strip it down to only one, this would be my pick. A cool laidback, almost Bond theme, with the super cool vocals with Shirley Bassey.

Yello - The Rhythm Divine

Depeche Mode – Photographic

The same goes for Depeche Mode, together with Yello was the main influences in my teens. Could easily put 10 if their songs here. So keep it short, Photographic is the
coolest synth track ever. Energetic and melodic takes me back to my teenage room every time.

Alphaville – Big In Japan

I put in one guilty pleasure for the sake of it ☺

Martin Brodin – Semitone Shuffle – Reworks (MB Disco)

Swedish artist Martin Brodin has been deeply involved in the global house and disco scene for decades. He initially founded this label in 2010 – and the MB Edits sub-label in 2013 – and has put out classics by Chicken Lips, Ray Man and Psychemagik. His productions on labels like Nang, Southern Fried and Buzzin Fly have very much defined the modern scene, none more so than epic 2005 cut ‘Semitone Shuffle.’ Now, after something of a hiatus, big new remixes of the original mark the welcome return of the MB Disco label. The first is from legendary German artist Lauer. He is one half of Tuff City Kids and Black Spuma, and an esteemed house producer for labels like Clone, Running Back and Permanent Vacation. His version is a melodic epic, a real house workout with pixelated pads raining down on the taught, arpeggiated bass. When some old-school chords arrive at the midpoint, the club is sure to take off. Brodin then steps up with his fantastic Hulabaluba Remix, which is a much more party-starting and disco-fried version. The drums loop down low, the luxurious chords are warm and full of colour and the whole track exudes class.

Out now… Martin Brodin – Semitone Shuffle – Reworks (MB Disco) Cat No: MB2034 Format: Vinyl, digital
