Back To Mine with Nhii

Nils Frahm – All melody

The piano virtuoso live at Melt. What a performance.
I just love the way how he plays the piano almost like a drum, so precise in timing and velocity, just breathtaking. Also – nobody uses the Roland space echo b better than him.

James Blake – Limit To Your Love

James Blake released his Album “James Blake” on 01.01.2011. What a start to a new year that was, listening to Limit to your love for straight 24 hours. Don’t sleep on the in-official Daniel Bortz Remix!

Les Filles de Illighadad – Inssegh Inssegh

I discovered Les Filles de Illighadad at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn. According to She Shreds Magazine there only has been 2 female turag guitarist in the known world, Fatou Seidi Ghati from the tense duo is one of them. I’m sure she changed this in the meanwhile, their album is full of hypnotic guitar lines and the voices carry a strange but comfortable feeling of ease to me.

Stimming – For My Better Half

I love everything about this track, the deep bass, the noisy rider, the vocals being processed by a granular synthesiser. The beautiful drop at 4:55 saves every day.

Muse – Origin of Symmetry Live

I slept on this for the most of my live, till my partner told me the old muse was actually cool. Like always, she was right. It’s worth watching the whole concert on YouTube. This is a recording from 2001, but in a good enough quality. Definitely one of my highlights during the lockdowns.

Coldcut – Walk A Mile In My Shoes (Henrik Schwarz Remix)

This is a very influential piece to me. I think what stands out here is the arrangement. 10 minutes never felt so short.  Obviously the sound design is right up my alley too.

vNathan Fake – The Sky Was Pink (Holden Remix)

The definition of timeless underground club music to me. Always welcome in my living room.

vPrince – 17 days (Piano & a microphone 1983 version)

My good friend and author Toure gave me his amazing book about Prince “ I would die for you” After reading details about his way of life and the way he worked on music,  I was totally sucked into his music. To me, this is the piece which showcases the genius of Prince like no other.

Takeshi’s Cashew – Akihi

One of my favourite Bands at the moment. The Label Eullen (Laut & Luise Sublabel) describes it as cosmofunk, exploring the boundaries of club culture, world music and 70‘s psychedelia. Very fitting description.

Tarawangsawelas – Selalu

Folk music duo from Indonesia creating a contemporary version of Tarawangsa, the sacred music from Sundanese West Java.

Various Artists – Feather of PTAH (Sounds of Khemit) Release: 26th November 2021 Cat No: SOK001 Format: Digital

Sounds of Khemit is a brand new label that aims to bring harmony and joy to people on their journey through life. It launches with an impressive three-tracker featuring Hraach, Nhii and Wild Dark and Fabian Krooss. The label believes that sound, frequencies and vibrations have the ability to activate the hidden codes in our DNA. In turn, this transports us to higher states of consciousness and unlocks and strengthens our life mission on this planet. Says the label, “At Sounds of Khemit we are starting a movement towards the light, a revolution against the darkness that leads us astray by forming bonds and unity among people. No matter the age, race, background, nationality or sexual orientation, Sounds of Khemit blends tradition with innovation by attracting those souls who see with their hearts and use their mouths to speak truth to power.” Armenian-born, Spain-based Hraach has made real moves over the last six years. He’s landed on Hoomidaas and Nazca amongst others and favours thoughtful groove designs. His ‘Al Vent’ is an exquisite eight-minute trip with loose toms scattered over a sublime, seductive groove. The smeared chords have you gazing off into the distance and deft keys and melodies encourage you to sink ever further into your thoughtful reverie. Nhii & Wild Dark is a collaboration of like-minded artists with a transcendental house sound. They have worked together on the likes of Flying Circus Recordings and impress again here. ‘Hanga Roa’ is packed with organic details – distant bird calls, neon synth motifs, exotic strings. It’s a superbly steamy house groove for those who like it deep and subtle. Fabian Krooss is the Berlin-based underground electronic talent who is tied to fine labels such as Stil vor Talent, Einmusika Recordings and Rebellion der Träumer. His slow-burning ‘Kallisto’ is a soft and sensuous house track. It’s peppered with hits, glassy tinkles, floaty pads and woodwind sounds that all add up to a richly detailed, heady and heartfelt track. This high-grade first release starts off Sounds of Khemit’s journey in style. Hraach’s ‘Al Vent’ will be released on streaming services on 11th November with Nhil and Wild Dark’s ‘Hanga Roa’ following on 19th November. Third single ‘Kallisto’ by Fabian Krooss will drop alongside the full EP on 26th November.
