Back to Mine with Sixty69nine

After hours grooving at the coolest after hour parties in town…

Sixty69nine is a name that keeps popping up in the dance music world over the last year. The Belgian DJ/Producer has earned himself an international following on nothing more than good music, both in the studio and via his memorable live shows. With 2013 bringing success on Beatport and clocking up tens of thousands of plays in every corner of the earth, the new year has been setup nicely for a dedicated talent that’s got a whole lot more in the tank for 2014. With multiple big singles lined up for the coming months, we thought it would be a good time to go back to Sixty69nine’s before he goes deep into a studio marathon to prepare for his next wave of releases for the Spring and Summer seasons ahead.

Imogen Heap – Hide & Seek

Some people may only know the version of some I-don’t-remember-his-name R’n’B artist building his track around the best part of this original. But this is the real deal. Great lyrics and an equally great vocal. A very unusual track, but I like it so much.

Paul Oakenfold – Southern Sun

Legendary tune and one of my all time favourite tracks. The vocal is out of this world good!

David Gray – Babylon

Somewhere in my mid-teens I had a house bootleg version of this track on an audio cassette tape, recorded from a radio show called Switch on the Belgian Radio Station ‘Studio Brussel’. We used to play that tape all the time when we were in the car during the family holidays in the South of France. This is a live version of the original. Simply brilliant.

Hybrid – Finished Symphony

This track reminds me of the time when I was about 15 years old. I got this CD ‘Ministry Of Sound: The Ibiza Annual ‘99’ from my nephew Peter who was some years older than me. I took it with me on holiday with my parents and this track is the one I’ll always remember. It’s 10 minutes of pure perfection. I remember listening to this tune poolside on my Discman with my brother Stijn sharing a pair of in ear headphones, one ear each! Great memories.

Luciano Pavarotti & James Brown – It’s A Man’s World

Two legends together performing a legendary song in a legendary way.

Swedish House Mafia – One

For me personally, this track has Tomorrowland 2010 written all over it. Not only did I play at Tomorrowland that year, I was backstage with my friends Jan and Sam on the main stage during the set of SHM. Apart from my own DJ set, this is a moment that I will always remember.

Chab – My Memory (Romanian Edit)

This song will always make me smile and remind of the good times with my best friend Jan back in the days when we were in college together.

Kirsty Hawkshaw – Fine Day (James Holden Remix)

No such list of mine would be complete without a track by the hand of James Holden. He’s made many masterpieces like ‘Holden & Thompson – Nothing’ or his remix for Nathan Fake’s ‘The Sky Was Pink’, but of all his stuff I still prefer this one most. After all this time it still gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.

Depeche Mode – Enjoy The Silence

I’ve always liked Depeche Mode and this is one of my all time favourites.

The Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (Axwell & Dirty South Remix)

Last but not least I’ve included this track. I like the original very much but this Axwell and Dirty South Remix will always be special to me. Back in 2009 I went to Tomorrowland for the first time together with a friend and colleague DJ. Back then you were still able to buy your tickets a day in advance.  But anyway Axwell was playing the mainstage when the sound system broke down. He just took off to another stage where Dirty South was playing. They played a back-to-back set that to this day remains one of my favourite DJ sets ever, with this Sweet Disposition remix as one of the highlights. Great memories…
