Sparrow & Barbossa have been responsible for some of the most memorable Afro/Latin inspired releases in recent years, with singles on Mo’Black, Madorasindahouse and Redolent. It comes as no surprise then that they would choose to release one of their most impressive records to date on the Stereo MC’s connected label. DMCWORLD check in with the guys for a stunning Back To Mine selection on the eve of the release of their new EP ‘Quando Te Veo’…
“As you’ll notice, what we listen to is very diverse, cross genre and cross culture. Mainly because of our age differences and origins differences, and this what makes Sparrow & Barbossa so different ! We’re very happy to share this secret garden with you guys. Enjoy!”

St Germain – So Flute (Ludovic Navarre Amapiano Version 2020)
This track for me was an absolute work of art, the original St-Germain album has been in my life since a very young age, having a Jazz music background from my father, this album served as a bridge between my jazz culture and initiated me to the electronic part.
Sun-EL Musician Feat. Msaki – Ubomi Abumanga
I’ve been listening to A LOT of Amapiano in the latest years, I find it incredibly relaxing and very inspiring for the music we actually produce which I consider is some kind of bridge towards a more dancefloor kind of African music.
Llorca – The Novel Sound
Discovered this one at a very young age too, on Buddha-Bar IV if I’m not mistaken. Also a big part of why I started producing, I simply love this track, Buddha-Bar has always been a huge source of inspiration for me, and funny fact, they’re about to re-release our track “La Negra” on one of their next editions.
Gotan Project – Triptico
I’m an all-time big fan of Gotan project. They also inspired me a lot with the process of mixing different cultures legacy with electronic music, once again I consider what we do one step further towards the dancefloor, but with the same attention to detail and respect to where the inspiration comes from.
Matthew Herbert Nils Petter Molvaer – Merciful
I have probably listened to this track over a thousand times, it is one of the first electronic music tracks I ever listened to, with no idea back in the time of what kind of maestro Herbert was. After some years of playing of course I got to know his art and this made me respect this track even more. It has a sad melancholic touch, but I think this is what I like most about it.

Frankie Knuckles – Your Love
This song was my first contact with house music when I arrived from Latin America to Europe and I went to an electronic music club. It is forever engraved in my soul.
Womack & Womack – Teardrops
This song will be in my head and among my favorites forever, the first time I heard it was at a soul heaven party with Louie Vega and Kenny Dope (Masters at work), idols for me.
Hector Lavoe – El Cantante
International musicians hymn for me.
Ruben Blades – Plastico
This topic made me reflect on the superficiality in the society in which we live and how it affects us. Ruben Blades is an institution for me.
Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie – Tears
With this track I realized for the first time that I was a fan of Frankie and I was getting to know Ibiza and Space Ibiza for the first time.
