Back To Mine with Steen Thottrup

When it comes to ‘Sunset’ Chill Out music, Danish producer Steen Thottrup truly is one of the pioneers. His music weaves between signature sunset Chill Out sounds, downtempo Indietronica, meditative grooves and dramatic classical fusions. Part of the ‘Cafe del Mar’ brand from the beginning and later ‘Buddha Bar’ among many other giants. Steen Thottrup’s career stretches from uptempo dance music, mainly as ‘MIRO’ through the 90’s and 00’s, before turning his hand to downtempo productions with huge success. Celebrating 30 years as an artist, Steen is now considered one of the pioneers of the Chill Out genre and became one of most featured artists on the Cafe del Mar compilations and also featured on the famous Buddha Bar albums, amongst many. He has released 4 albums to date including, ‘Sunset People’, ‘Filmatica’, ‘Balearic Bliss’, and ‘Diversities’ in Spring 2021. As he celebrates his 30th anniversary in music with the nostalgic ‘1991’ single, we all head back to Steen’s for some proper classic chill out tunes!

Kermesse – Marimba
What can i say, such a band with such a groove, a perfect track for either building up or down a momentum.
Kermesse - Marimba

Future Sound Of London – Papua New Guinea
There isn’t a track that is more classic and fresh sounding at the same time. I personally don’t think anything since has been so unique in its production and it makes it a true timeless that would inspire youth as much as bringing back the best memories to the ‘rave generation’.

Steen Thottrup – 1991
A fresh take and nostalgic journey down my own memory lane back 30 years to ‘1991’ when I was in Ibiza and the UK, the year the year Balearic beats were introduced to an ecstatic post ‘Summer of Love’ crowd. This is a track full of the essence of 1991, pianos, acoustic guitars, Italo vibes and breakbeats.
Premiere: Steen Thottrup feat. Francesca Faggella - 1991 (5PM - London Love Mix)

Banda Sonora – Guitarra G (Afterlife remix)
I will never forget ibiza the year this track was released,  fellow ‘Chillouter’, Afterlife delivered an outstanding remix

Groove Armada – At The River
Another timeless classic: A perfect trumpet + a perfect vocal = memories of beach, sun,  fun, friends, holiday, love and everything in between. Also suits all hours of the day.

The Beloved – You’ve Got Me Thinking
Well The Beloved to me could do metal rock and they would still come across as Balearic to me, they just got that sound in whatever they do. This is an absolute favourite and I wish there was so much more coming from them.

3-11 Porter – Surround Me With Your Love
This track and vocal for me is timeless in every way, not many tunes through time can stick out as much as this one.

Art Of Noise – Moments In Love
I will never get tired of the riff and the mood of this track, it completely brings me back to zen whenever needed, many remixes have been done, but this original is the one for me.

Bliss – Kisses
A fellow Danish band I’m so proud of. I have know Steffen since the very beginning of our careers (Techno), but when we both calmed down and they brought this out, a true classic album was born.

The Korgis – Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime
This is the biggest sunset tune of my life, again many different titles and mixes have been done of this, but only one version really does it for me. Maybe it is to do with the early years of hearing this original at Cafe del Mar in Ibiza, before there was a sunset music production manual.
