1. Dorothy Ashby – Come Live With Me
Produced by Richard Evans, the whole “Afro-Harping” album is a jazz staple. This just sets the mood for things to come.
2. Love Unlimited Orchestra – Strange Games And Things
From my “musically-favourite” decade, a prime example of how magic happens when Barry White puts a 40 piece band together.
3. Roy Ayers – Destination Motherland
From the best Vibraphone player I ever heard, one of my many favourites from his 1981 “Africa, centre of the world” album. Simply amazing beginning to end.
4. Jaco Pastorius – Come On, Come Over
If you’re familiar with my music, you know I love a good bassline. Well how about this heater from one of the best. Gone too soon. Definitely an inviting tune 🙂
5. The Grid – Flotation (Subsonic Grid Mix)
An all-time-favourite ambient 12” from 1990, combining the brilliance of ex-Soft Cell, David Ball & let’s not forget Andrew Weatherall on the Remix duties (R.I.P.)
6. Max Cilla – La Flûte Des Mornes
Combining French charm and the tropical Caribbean rhythms, folk music from Martinique done right from this very talented flute player.
7. Jake Hottell – Horizon
An overlooked obscurity, this balances country & electronic influences in a very personable & expressive way. New age for the open-minded.
8. Dexter Wansel – Life On Mars
A cosmic Journey from Philly. It is truly out of the world, a prime example of how you lose yourself in synthesizers and create a masterpiece and let’s not forget Instant Funk’s contribution on this
9. Dengue Dengue Dengue – Banyuwangi
Peruvian native rhythms on this release out of Portugal, this is exotic and tribal. Discovered it about a year ago and have been playing it ever since non-stop.
10. Santana – One With The Sun
Respectfully, one of his best tracks from one of his best albums. How you successfully blend Latin, jazz & rock doing all 3 genres justice. This leaves me wanting more.
