German melodic producer Alex Breitling has become synonymous with sunshine-infused house music that helps to lift spirits with its light hearted nature. With a stunning array of releases on Purified, including his ‘Moonlight’ EP and his ‘Arosa’ EP, Alex now delivers his two-track ‘Lilie’ EP.

Hi Alex, welcome to DMC World! Where are we speaking to you from today?
Hey guys! From Koblenz in Germany!
For those readers that aren’t familiar with you, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am just a normal person who loves listening to music and building beats!
Do you remember what made you decide to get into music production?
It all started around 12 years ago in my hometown, Koblenz. I was really keen to DJ and I waited outside this electronic club there and asked the owner if I could play sometime. He was really cool and asked me to send a guest mix for him to check out. After some gigs there, I ended up becoming a resident DJ and then made the decision to produce my own music. My first release was ‘Lift Up’ on Armada, after they found me on SoundCloud and were interested in having me release on their label. It was an amazing feeling! I had a short break in producing as I didn’t feel like the tracks were good enough to release, but that was totally wrong and I wasted my time! In 2019 I came back into full on production mode and now here we are and I am releasing on Purified 🙂 That says to me that I didn’t do anything wrong!
You are gearing up for your new EP, ‘Lilie’, on Purified Records. Can you tell us a little bit about the process and inspiration behind the two tracks?
I wanted to create a new feeling with this EP and create more sounds to dream to. I think especially with the Track ‘Lilie’ I have created a journey that evokes a lot of feelings!
It was very easy to produce this track because I started with emotional chords or melodies. I get inspired by listening to many different styles of music.
You have had a string of releases on Purified Records including the stunning ‘Moonlight’ and ‘Arosa’ EPs. How did this come about and how does it feel releasing with them?
Purified is one of my favourite labels together with Anjunadeep TNH and Colorize. There are so many good artists with melodic stuff, which you don’t get on any other labels. Especially in Germany, there is a big gap of this music style. Germans often want it harder and faster, but I love listening to music with emotions. I think Purified is a good place for me and the future 🙂 Nora is a kind-hearted person!
Which artists do you look up to, and who would you love to collaborate with?
I really get inspired by Lane 8 but also on vibes like Artbat and harder stuff.
Best event you have ever performed at?
I think on a boat party in France. The people came for the “German night” and I played together with Ferdinand Weber.
If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I think it would be on a festival in a forest. I love those vibes out in the nature.
If you could change one thing about the music scene, what would it be and why?
I don’t know if I would change anything! Sometimes I wish there would be no social media or streaming, but then again everything has its positives and negatives.
From your own experience, do you have any advice for up-and-coming producers?
Don’t lose your focus!
