Chiqito

Chiqito has always been a music addict. In 2012 he released Gangbang on Cuartero’s Sanity Records, which helped propel his name into the limelight. An army of supporters ensued in the form of Jamie Jones, DJ Sneak, Matthias Tanzmann, Maceo Plex, Nic Fanciulli, Andrea Oliva, Carlo Lio, Loco Dice, Cocodrills, Nathan Barato, and many others. Releases soon followed on the likes of Elrow Music, Dirtybird, Snatch!, Brock Wild, Toolroom, Suara, Rawthentic, Stereo Productions, Inmotion Music, and I’M A HOUSE GANGSTER. And now, Chiqito is the next in line to make his debut on the famed Hot Creations imprint with his standout four-track EP titled Phantom Of the Opera. A big fan of the label, he fits perfectly into the diverse and celebrated catalogue. DMCWORLD dives in for a cool world exclusive…

Hi Chiqito, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today. For our readers that aren’t familiar with you, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hello and I greet all dear readers! Of Course, I’m Chiqito, I was born in Hungary in the 80’s, in the capital, Budapest. I started making music at the age of 17. I started out as a hobby at first, but I was approached by a Dutch label that wanted to make an album with me and have been going live ever since!

Your new release Phantom Of The Opera is out on Hot Creations. Can you tell us how you got the track signed?

For some time I have sent demos to Jamie Jones, and he bounced back to all my emails and listened to all my demos! He really liked Dance Of The Sugar, and after that he asked me for more trax and the Phantom Of The Opera EP was born!

It would be great to know your production process for this release too. Could you tell us how it came together?

I’m always trying to improve the sound of “Chiqito,” so it was now! I really like classical music and I thought what if I mixed it up with a little break, cymbal, snare and a hi hat. And I tried to make the other two tracks for the sound world of Hot Creations.

When making music, do you have an idea of what label you are making the track for or do you just go with it and decide who to send it to after?

Sometimes I start with knowing what kind of label I’m making it for and try to hit their sound world to fit. But sometimes I just sit down, I start doing it, and what’s going on inside me I publish out of myself and send to a couple of labels.

Things have been crazy with the pandemic, how have you been keeping busy?

I made music and spent a lot of time with my family, my daughter, and my wife!

Who are your biggest musical influences and why?

In the electronic scene, “old bikers” (:D)  are absolute. For example: Jamie Jones, Loco Dice, Carl Cox, Green Velvet! Because they did a huge thing, they dedicated their lives to it, so I mean they started all this very long ago and they were persistent, they didn’t stop because this whole thing really takes a lot of perseverance and they did it!

What do you like to do outside of music, do you have any hobbies?

I love going to the gym, playing sports and moving! But ever since my daughter was born, I’ve only been hanging out with her ever since!

Do you have any upcoming gigs or projects you can tell us about?

Next week I’m going to play at a Beach Festival here in Hungary! I look forward to it! I made a lot of music and now I’m going to send it to the Labels who are still on my boot list!
