21 year old Nick Ruffalo, better known as Ruff, has been breezing through career milestones at break-neck speed with a string of globally adored releases behind him. Following the March-release of his hit single ‘Reasons’ alongside American Idol finalist Robbie Rosen and Mercedes, the New Jersey native reimagines the cut as a stripped-back ballad with his highly anticipated acoustic version – out now via The Dawg House.

 Hi Ruff, how are you?

I’m doing great, super busy but I mean that in the best way possible!

We love your latest release ‘Reasons’, what was your inspiration behind the track?

Thank you so much, this track means the absolute world to me since it’s always been on my songwriting “bucket list” to write from two different perspectives each telling their side of a story. Pulling from past relationships and experiences allowed for myself and Robbie to build the relationship in the song’s story and paint a picture of what it feels like to be on both sides of a breakup.

What was it like working alongside Robbie Rosen and Mercedes?-

Absolutely incredible. This is the second track I’ve released with Robbie on vocals and the 3rd that we’ve written lyrically together. Him and I have a wild workflow together where we always end up writing the entirety of the record in less than an hour, it’s unreal!  Mercedes is such a talented up and coming singer and her insane vocal flexibility meshed so effortlessly with Robbie’s vocals, I couldn’t have asked for a better pair to sing on this track!

How would you describe your style of music?

I consider my music to be “dance-pop” drawing inspiration from progressive house, future bass, disco, and deep house. The goal with my music is to truly encapsulate my emotions within each record and have that resonate with each and every person who listens to my music.

Who would be your dream collaboration?

That would have to be either the Chainsmokers or Illenium, both are huge inspirations to me and my sound and they are consistently stepping up the game for all of us artists in so many ways.

What have you missed most about performing live?

That feeling you get right when you start your set and look around to see what the crowd’s vibe is before absolutely unleashing everything you got onto them has to be one of the best feelings of all time and I am so excited to have that come back very, very soon.

What does the future look like for Ruff?

The future of the Ruff brand has so much in store involving weekly live-stream sets, production tutorials, consistent, weekly Youtube videos and vlogs, and of course a bunch of new music! I’ve also been quietly building up a new and improved live set layout involving real instruments and visual effects that I am dying to unveil soon.
