Applebum is truly bringing something fresh to Ibiza. The island is best known for its pumping techno and joyous house parties, but this year Sankeys have offered this flower powered night a platform to bring hip hop to the white isle. The night is named after a classic joint from A Tribe Called Quest, and it’s music policy is just as well informed.
Over the course of the season there will be many shades of hip hop covered from new to old. Many big names are all set to line up in what will be one of the most talked about parties of the summer. Residents for the night include Aussie veteran Mo Funk, who brings many years experience with him as he has played al over the island before now.
Also playing early doors during thee parties are are the likes of British deck talent Patrick Nazemi, musical lyricist Harley Maxwell, Applebum resident DJ and producer Little Prince, and Junior Brown & Deejay REFF. They all add great colour to the dance floor and the crowd that is in attendance when we rock up sure is fresh faced and ready to party.
They come from all over Europe and dance from the first tot he last beat. R&b also gets a good airing and brings a great reception out of the punters who lap up every beat through Sankeys’ crisp sound system. In the Boutique, the Ibiza Hip Hop Collective also does their thing but of course tonight is all about what happens in the LAB, namely a set from the one and only Grandmaster Flash.
Flash sure is getting on these days but on tonight’s evidence he still knows what’s up. He is a master on the decks who cuts up and chops and juggles his beats all night long. He plays lots of his own famous jams and the crowd lap up every single one. He is busy on the shout outs and keeps everyone enthused as the night wares on. It proves that hip hop really does have a place on the island and Tuesdays at Sankeys is that place.
The likes of Slum Village, Coolio, DJ Yoda, DJ Jazzy Jeff and many more are all lined-up to play the rest of the season so Applebum really have pulled out all the stops. With their great production and the famous values of Sankeys, this is a match made in heaven that you should check out as soon as you hit Ibiza.
