Interview by Rath Guud

Hi Giorgia, welcome to DMC World, where are you in the world right now?

Today I am in super hot Florence, just back from the wonderful Amsterdam.

What was the first piece of music you heard today?

A composition for meditation, music helps me a lot to feel relaxed and to get in a special mood.

How would you describe your sound?

I think that my sound has many different influences and I could describe it as a mix between Deep, Pop, House and Techno.

What first turned you on to electronic music?

I had a classical education and I grew up listening to a lot of classical, rock and pop music… and of course Björk, one of my favourite artists! She influenced me strongly because she created a unique sound between pop and electronic music. Then I got some albums from my friends and I started to listen to artists like Ellen Allien, Apparat, Autechre and The Chemical Brothers, amongst others. After that I really fell in love with this new sound. So I decided to buy new equipment to produce this kind of music and I bought a sound card, a laptop, synthesizers and Ableton live.

You use lots of music toys in your compositions, what made you first start experimenting with them?

I’ve always been a big lover of vintage toys and I started to collect them few years ago! I think that there is a strong connection between beautiful objects and beautiful sounds. The toys I use are always full of colours and I mix them with a lot of effects!

Describe 3 of your favourite musical toys you use and what they do you (supply pics if you have)

I have many toy guns and I really like them because they are quite provocative. However, I only interpret guns as objects full of colours and sound rather than anything that has to do with violence. I also love my Otamatone, which is a Japanese instrument and a very old penholder that I found many years ago in an Easter egg.

You also have a fantastic image, lots of cute and colourful clothes, how do you go about creating your look?

I used to buy a lot of clothes in shop for kids, I love colours and they give me a lot of energy!

Who rules…Doraemon or Hello Kitty?

Doraemon!

You perform live a lot as well as being a recording artist, but have you never had the desire to get on the decks too?

Not yet…I am a musician and I’ve never performed as a DJ. I think it’s something completely different, I like to play my own music and even when I had a band, for me it was already very strange to even imagine playing covers . The best part of my job is to compose my own music and to share it with people. I really respect the job of a DJ, I think It’s a very hard job at that, but it’s one that’s very different from live production or live performance.

A birdy tell’s us you’re currently finishing your new album, what can we expect from that?

It’s true, I am working on a new album with 12 tracks. It’s a very spontaneous and eclectic piece with different tracks having quite different moods. I used a lot of Juno 106 and Moog sub37, guitar, double bass and vocals. For me, an album is very different from an EP, it’s a “space” where you can draw different shapes and shadows.

You’ve got your new single ‘Quintessenza’ dropping soon on the might 3000° Records, tell us about the release and how you hooked up with them?

I had the pleasure to play at their parties in Berlin and Hamburg and I loved the concept behind their parties – installations and magic atmospheres.  When they asked me to produce an EP for them I was super happy about it! And I really like the label too, they’ve many cool artists who’ve released nice music.

There’s also remixes from Ed Ed & Sasse Remix and Mollono.Bass, you must be quite pleased with the results?

They remixed two different tracks. The remix of Ed Ed and Sasse is a perfect track for the dance floor, I love it! Mollono.bass ’s remix has a different vibe – it’s really special and poetic and I really love it too.

You’ve released a lot of music on different labels, as an artist do you feel it important to cast the net far and wide releasing with many labels as opposed to going exclusively with one label?

I think that freedom is the best thing ever in any job. Exclusivity is never a good choice.

What are your thoughts on the current Techno / Tech House scene and which producers are rocking it for you right now?

I am a big fan of melodies and I really love and respect the productions from Adriatique, David August  and Dj Koze. There is a lot of quality in their music. I am also a big fan of Dj Tennis and his unique sound.

Who are your biggest influencers?

Daily life, Wagner, Shakespeare and the Impressionist art movement.

Who would you most like to make a collaboration with?

My dream is to work with an orchestra, so it has to be the best orchestra in the world – The London Symphony Orchestra.

You’re on the road touring a lots cross Italy, Germany and beyond, where has been your favourite place to play so far?

The cities that never disappoint me are Berlin, Zurich, Amsterdam and Rome.

Name a record that makes you say “damn, I wish I made that!”

‘November Morning’ by Stimming.

What’s been the biggest challenge in your career so far?

When I started to create dance music… Having a classical education and playing rock music for many years, I detested dance music and discotheque, but in the past few years I released that It’s one of most empathic forms of music and to play for a “dancing audience” gives me a strong feeling.

What are you proudest moments?

When I am on the stage and people in front of me smile, or close their eyes and oscillate on their own feet like swings in the wind.

What events/festivals are you most looking forward to this Summer?

Tinì Sound Garden (Tuscany) in August – I will play with Dixon and also Guendalina Adventure at Parco Gondar (Gallipoli) with Martinez Brothers, Prodigy and my friend Gianni Sabato.

Whats the best thing about living in Florence?

The art of Italian Renaissance that you can breath in at every corner of the city.
