Back To Mine With Tyler Hill

Toronto’s Tyler Hill is an artist who dips into many musical influences, from funk to European electronica to synth-infused 80’s magical via Hip Hop and Electronica. He plays all around Toronto’s key venues, is one half of DJ duo +ONE and hosts a residency at Wiggle Room, which is also the name of the label he recently launched with Takin Nateghi. As his new tracks ‘Smooth’ and ‘Move’ land on Ellum Audio, DMCWorld goes back to mine with Tyler Hill.

Der Dritte Raum – Hale Bopp (Original Mix)

This track stands the test of time, I still play it constantly. The first time I walked into a night club this track was playing and watching people react on the dance floor, I knew that I wanted to be a DJ. The progression of elements and how they’re introduced is mesmerizing. The way the melody moves with the bassline grabs you immediately. It’s a work of art and one of my go to tracks to lift the dance floor.

Sabb featuring Forrest – One Of Us (Dennis Ferrer Remix)

This track was my reintroduction to house music after a long time apart from the genre. It has captivating synth riffs that take you deep into the track while layered with the perfect vocals.

Maetrik – Envy

This song is menacing, and explosive. All the while very versatile. It is categorized as house music but I’ve always used it in my minimal techno sets. This track singlehandedly moved me from trance to techno.

Oxia – Domino

For me, this song is big room music; the oscillating melodic tones mixed with the perfect hi-hats always move the crowd.

Dubfire & Oliver Huntemann – Terra (Joseph Capriati Remix)

This Capriati track is a much darker take then the Original, which was also amazing. But what got me was the removal of all of the chords giving it an after-hours dark-room feel.

Nalini & Kane – Open Your Eyes (Extended Club Mix)

Right from the start of the track you are waiting for the drop. And when that first kick drum hits you start to see the room shake! I love the progression of this track, especially the piano chords. This is definitely a track I would love to remix one day.

Boryana – Purple Noon

Over the years this one has never let me down. Dirty low-end thumper that definitely puts the speakers to work. The song’s energy is overwhelming.

Zoo Brazil – Slob (Nick Curly Remix)

I must have listened to this song 50 times in a row the first time I heard it. I missed it when it was released, but my wife played it for me one night and I’ve been playing it ever since. It has such an infective groove that gets people moving.

Fat Boy Slim vs Funkagenda – What The Fuck

Dirty, dirty, dirty! Enough said.

Iron Curtains – Condos (Maceo Plex Remix)

This is my last choice but not by any means the least of my favorites. Over the years, Maceo Plex has been one of my go to’s for his versatility; it’s inspiring and Condos for me is a quality made track. It’s melodic, yet uplifting, and certainly a festival banger.
