Boris Smith & Mia More

Boris Smith is the Dutch DJ and Producer no stranger to success with releases on the world’s leading dance labels. He’s a DJ with an international appeal that knows how to rock a crowd, having played at Ushuaïa, Pacha and many more superclubs. He kicks off his new Smith Rec imprint with this collaboration with Amsterdam based Mia More. It’s a pure uplifting piano house anthem with a familiar feel currently smashing it on the summer club circuit. The Dutch duo make some time to answer so questions and give us some insight about their DJ /and Producer life…

What have you been up to today?
Boris – I’ve been working on a remix and a new original track, super excited about this one!  After this I’m sorting out some new tunes for the weekend, can’t wait to get back on the road again.
Mia – I was sailing through the canals of Amsterdam with friends and had a gig at the beach!
Where did the inspiration for your new release come from?
Boris – After my release “Be Yourself” my next goal was to produce a new dance floor banger for my DJ sets. This ended up to be “So Good” with the lovely Mia More. As Mia said, we both love 90’s house music so we tried to make something like this only with the sound from today.
Mia –  I’m a big fan of 90s house music, so we were listening to some old-school housetunes and thought, ‘hey, we should make something new with a 90s vibe’. So that’s what we did!
How would you describe your style?
Boris – Happy energetic house music with a lot of mash ups and bootlegs. A little wink to the past and of course a lot of fresh music.
Mia – Happy house music, with an old-school touch.
Are you excited by your new label? What future releases are planned?
Boris – I’m super excited about the new label, after this I have 3 tracks lined up for the label and we are working hard on new material!
Mia – I’m excited for Boris!
Which other artists would you like to work with?
Boris – Fatboy Slim.
Mia – MK and Camelphat! MK is my all-time-favorite producer, so it would be awesome if I could work with him! Also, Stacy Kidd…would love to make a “good-vibes” house record together.
Which other producers – past and present – have inspired you?
Boris –  When I was young we really looked up to Fedde Le Grand and Funkerman because they where playing house music with a unique twist and super creative.  I think they inspired so many producers that are leading the charts right now.
Mia – I really like the tracks of Weiss (UK) and Ferreck Dawn. I’m a sucker for ‘piano house’ as I call it  and mostly prefer tracks with good vocals.
What are your plans for the rest of the summer?
Boris – Playing a lot of festivals and produce new music…
Mia – Lot’s of festivals!! And I hope to go back to Ibiza in September.
What are you current Top 3 dance-floor weapons?
Boris –
  1. Fisher (OZ) – Losing It
  2. La Fuente & Boris Smith – Work
  3. Boris Smith & Mia More – So Good
Mia-
  1. Boris Smith & ’So Good’
  2. Dennis Quinn feat. Shermanology – Move Out of My Way
  3. Weiss – Feel My Needs
What has been your most memorable DJ set to date?
Boris – I think last year at Amsterdam Open Air in this set everything came together the vibe was right  I finally was happy with my sound and there was 10.0000 people in front of me. Epic moment! To spontaneously play together with the number 1 DJ and he is a really nice guy.
Mia – I was playing at a party in Amsterdam and Martin Garrix was there as a guest. His security guard asked me if Martin could play, so I say “okay”. I thought he meant that he was gonna take over my set, but then Martin said: “no, I mean together!”. We played a house set b2b and everybody was going crazy. It was really cool!
Can we expect more music from you both together this year?
Boris – I’m releasing a few collabs together with Sander Kleinenberg, La Fuente and working on some remixes and of course some solo projects. Exciting times!
Mia – This track arose from a spontaneous studio-session, but I think we’re both very happy with the result! So I don’t rule out that we plan more studio sessions together.
When you’re not in the studio or touring, how do you like to spend your time?
Boris – Spending time with my son, playing golf and hanging out with friends.
Mia – Together with music, traveling is what I love the most. I’ve been to Australia for 5 months 8 years ago and I had the time of my life there, so it’s my wish to go back.
Given how hot it’s been this summer, what are your top tips for keeping cool?
Boris – Drink enough beer!
Mia – I love being hot! So why keeping cool!? But when it’s too hot… a jump in some fresh water always helps.
