Tune
Patrice Baumel – Surge
Luca Donzelli – That Freaky Stuff
Yes, I have two, because there were more than one or two best records of the year! I’d actually like to choose 3 as I have 3 approaches to my gigs and sets based on place, time, country… and more.
Album
DJ Koze presents Pampa Vol. 1
I wanted to choose without limiting myself to house/techno/the music I listen to as a DJ… I listen to a lot of music, possibly mainly music outside the club genre, and I believe this album represents the balance between listen to music and dance to/play out music. And its something I found myself listening to frequently, and actually played out many of the tracks as well at sunset and tropical gigs. I love the breadth and range and variety, the humour and depth of the music selected. This is such an easy, pleasant and rewarding listen.
Remix
Audion – Mouth to Mouth (Dubfire Remix)
Quite simply – stunning!
Label
Moon Harbour
Simply because I have played so much of their catalogue this year. But there are so many great labels out there, choosing one should be illegal.
Breakthrough Label
Speicher
So much nutty & full-on music released by them.
Producer
Lost Desert
Just listen and you will understand why.
Festival
I took a year off the festival circuit, unless being at Universo Paralelo at the beginning of the year, end of 2015 counts, so hard to say.
Music Conference
IMS
Because its local, because its contemporary, because it is so varied and brings so much music, musical styles, people and nationalities together in a non-pretentious but open and inquisitive atmosphere, in such a beautiful location.
Radio Show
Gilles Peterson Worldwide
Because… it’s Gilles!
Resident DJ
Club Warung
New Studio Equipment/Software
Ableton’s latest version. Loving it!
Personal highlight of 2016
So many personal breakthroughs and with it so much clarity, and with that so much transparency in my surroundings and company, making it easier to see what’s worth it, what isn’t, who’s worth it, who isn’t. Also, some DJ sets at the beach that I enjoyed so much, an opportunity to branch out of the need to make people dance and being able to play soothing and mood enhancing music.
Your ambition for 2017…
To go back to Japan in 2017. 2016 was the first year since 2004 (approximately) that I didn’t go. I want to go back! Also to keep on with the breakthroughs, step up with the studio work and releases, and to make Percomania grow as much as possible.
