Leslee Clarke – Ushuaia

 Ibiza 2012 Special

What were some of the big parties for Ushuaia in 2012?

“This summer we raised the bar at Ushuaia, housing the world’s biggest DJs in one venue. From SHM, Luciano, David Guetta, Avicii, deadmau5, Fatboy Slim, Calvin Harris and Sasha. By having all of these guys we pretty much ensured that every event was big this summer.”

What can you tell us about the new Ushuaia Tower Hotel?

“Hold tight…. it’s taking Ibiza to the next level…”

Tune of the summer?

“Kolsch – ‘Der Alte’ – always a favourite at the end of Luciano’s set.”

Most overplayed record of the summer?

“GOYTE.”

Which DJ received the best reception at the venue all summer?

“For us we’re very lucky that all our DJs that play at Ushuaia receive an amazing reception, purely because each event has their dedicated followers.”

Favourite resident DJ on the island?

“For me I would have to say Paul Reynolds, he is a local DJ who lives on the island who has warmed up for SHM all summer, as well as playing at some of our other parties at Ushuaia. He is the most versatile DJ with amazing sets that really fills the dance floor, he’s an absolute pleasure to work with, always a big cheesy grin on his face.”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

“For such a small place this island has got it all, and theres always new things happening each year to keep people engaged; like Ushuaia, the new plans for Pacha Palms, The Ushuaia Tower, 123 Festival – it gives people a reason to come back year after year.”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“You’re either into one or the other, there’s no in between.  That’s one of the good things about Ibiza, there is something for everyone.”

What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year? And why?

“For us, I would have to say Avicii, we knew it would do well but I don’t think we anticipated just how well, it was a pleasure to have his first summer residency at Ushuaia.”

Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?

“When I get the time to go to the beach, it has to be Es Cavellet –  they do a great Champagne Sangria at El Chiringuito. My favourite restaurant is a little French bistro called Pastis in the Old Town, cosy and intimate with great food.”

Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?

“I think that it was great for Ibiza, it doesn’t always have to be about the clubs, times are changing and we need to evolve with the times, it’s bringing a new concept to to the island that appeals to all ages. I think it’s great for San Antonio.”

What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?

“Sueno Latino.”

Best venue in Ibiza and why?

“Of course my first choice is Ushuaia, however there are a lot of amazing venues in Ibiza,  from clubs, beach bars and restaurants….we’re very blessed on this little island.”

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?

“For me it has to be the roads, living here it can get a bit frustrating getting around a small island in height of summer, thankfully over the last few years that’s become a lot easier and safer, although there’s always room for improvement.”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?

“Being Irish, I would say we like a good old knees up, the Belgians could give us a run for our money though!”

Breakthrough artist of 2012?

“Maceo Plex for me has done incredibly well this summer, he’s a great producer and certainly knows how to command the dance floor.”

If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?

“Irina Levy, she introduced me to DC10.”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“The first trip was when I was very young , with my parents.  I always knew from a very early age that this is where I would end up.”
