Ibiza 2012 Special

What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?

“I have quite a few. Playing for Carl Cox was wonderful and for my dear old friend Richie Hawtin at Space. But the best had to be the closing party for Jamie Jones’ night Paradise at dc10. It was an honour and a pleasure as I have never played at that club before. Great being around all my friends as well. Makes me play bettter knowing I’m being watched by my peers. Haha.”

Tune of the summer?

Miss Kittin “girlz” – jackathon jams.”

Most overplayed record of the summer?

“Not sure as i don’t pay attention to that stuff.”

Favourite resident DJ on the island?

“Remo for Enter/Kehakuma. He was fantastic when I played with him this year. Loved his vibe.”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

…”music is the answer to the problem” nuff said.”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“It’s been really nice to see the underground take over in the last few years. The crowds need to be educated. There is wonderful music being played that doesn’t sound like a chainsaw or drill being penetrated through to your skull. I guess it depends on your own personal vibe. Now you have a choice and a chance to get involved with other sounds.”

What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year?

“Definitley Richie Hawtin’s Enter@ Space. He brought something totally different with the production. I have never seen Space look so cool. The whole Japanese influence really worked. I love the sake bar and the fact that he has gone outside the m-nus box and booked a whole slew of new and old school talent. He even played differently than he normally does. I’ve known him since I was 18 and I have seen him play a million times, but this year his sound was way more sexy. More vocals. More deepness. I loved it.”

Favourite restaurant in Ibiza?

“It’s a new place in the harbour called Pinino Osteria. I always get booked to stay at Ocean Drive so its easy for me to pop across the street. This is just wonderful. The salt baked fish is to die for and they have such a fantastic wine selection. Really great and the staff are super friendly.”

What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?

“Ricardo Villalobos “Easy Lee”. It came out when I first came to the island and I just remember such amazing memories of the people I was with and where I was at when I heard it being played. So soft and sexy with this great techno edge. I was in heaven.”

Best venue in Ibiza and why?

“Space. I love playing there. The sound is bomb and the staff are so friendly and helpful. The nights are the best. We Love, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin. I had a great summer there this year.”

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving

” Certainly not the internet, hahahha. I think the roads are in way better shape. That helps. It used to take hours to get from one part to the other but now it’s way easier.”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?

“The Brits of course. They just go for it no matter where they are. Bless their little hearts. True music fanatics.”

Breakthrough artist of 2012?

“He’s been around awhile but it seems Solomun has had one hell of a year. He is on top form and I’m so happy for him as he is hands down one of the sweetest men I know. He deserves all the praise he gets.”

If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?

“Soul Clap & Martinez Brothers. Because they make me laugh harder than anyone on this earth. And they have moves that can light a dancefloor on fire……..and so do I.”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“It was around 2004. I went with my two best friends (who are a couple) as I was DJing there for the first time for Monza at a club I can’t even remember the name of now (because it’s gone). But it was one of those super special moments. We had the time of our lives. We danced at Cocoon and We Love, we ate amazing food, We drank our faces off, and stayed in the pool so long we thought we were dolphins (no joke). Went to all the amazing beaches. Writing this brings a little tear to my eye. It was pure magic.”
