HOUSEKEEPING

HOUSEKEEPING is the acclaimed label and DJ collective formed by Sebastian MDH, Jacobi, Taylor McWilliams, and Carl Waxberg. For the last five years, HOUSEKEEPING have played at some of the biggest parties in London, Ibiza and Mykonos. HOUSEKEEPING have just released the ‘Let’s Play’ EP from founding member Sebastian MDH, so DMC caught up with them…

Hi, how did Housekeeping come about?

Four friends from London, Sweden and Texas came together with their shared love of music to create a sound that was new to London in a time when tech house and deep house wasn’t regularly available. At the time, Jacobi worked in a small club in London so we started showcasing our music there.

You’ve had a really busy summer. What have been your highlights?

The highlight of the summer must have been ANTS at Ushuaia and the Hï Ibiza closing party in Ibiza – a 17-hour session with Jamie Jones, Loco Dice, Andrea Olivia, Nic Fanciulli and more. The atmosphere on this night was second to none.

What records have received the strongest reaction in your recent sets?

This changes, depending on where we are playing, but we won’t forget the reaction when playing at Social Festival and just before Apollonia jumped on, we dropped Kellerkind ft. Sven ‘Shakti Pan’ and the room exploded.

Your previous release from another founding member Jacobi, ‘Best Friend, Worst Enemy’, featured a remix from Timo Maas. How did he get involved with the project?

From the minute it was made, we felt Timo was the perfect person to give a totally different direction whilst keeping the essence of the track. We love the remix from Timo and think it really adds another dimension to the EP.

What can people expect from the forthcoming Housekeeping releases?

We are about to release ‘Let’s Play’ by Housekeeping’s Sebastian MDH and we all think this is another extremely strong EP. Pete Tong has already picked this track up and has been playing it on BBC Radio 1 before general release. We are all extremely proud of this track and what Seb has created.

Which current producers and DJs inspire you?

We each have our own inspiration as we tend to produce individually as well as collaborating. (Jacobi says) For me personally, I loved working with Nico Stojan, he’s an extremely talented producer and hope we can do more stuff together in the future.

What venue(s) would you really love to perform at?

DC10 has to be the one that stands out – on the terrace as the sun is coming up.

You played a lot in Ibiza this summer. What are your hopes for Ibiza 2018?

We are finalising these talks as we speak, but we can be sure to be back in Ibiza, Mykonos and much more. Hopefully we can continue to grow on the success of last summer.

How do you all choose to unwind from producing and DJing?

We try to all get together in London as much as possible, when we aren’t traveling. Seb’s a great cook but more often than not, the conversation quickly moves back to music and what our next plans are. We are lucky that we get to do something we all love so making music is winding down.
