She owns the night with Tiesto and Wolfgang Gartner
Welcome to DMCWORLD Miss Carporaso. One of the most in demand singer / songwriters at the moment. You claimed that you can remember writing songs aged 4. So do I take it you come from a musical family?
“Well my Grandad played the spoons if you can call that musical! They all could sing a bit but no real musicians in the family no. My mum bought a piano so I could learn Chaz and Dave…but that didn’t really pan out. Sorry Mum!”
Wolfgang Gartner and Tiesto have stated that when you came into the ‘We Own The Night’ project, it suddenly sounded magical. You must have been happy working with these two legends?
“I was over the moon…it was a beautiful collaboration with two DJs whove I’ve admired for a long time. I’m really proud of the track..I think it’s beautiful, edgy and uplifting all at the same time..and funnily enough it came about simply by bumping in to Tiesto at lunch when I was out having a tipple for my Birthday…”
If you were off on a night out in London, what sort of musical soundtrack would have to be playing to keep you happy on the dancefloor?
“I’m loving the Gotye track right now ”Somebody that I Used To Know”…that and Example, Martin Solvieg makes me wanna dance, SHM, Benny Benassi, Calvin Harris.sia Titanium, Porter Robinson, the Tiesto and Wolfgang track!!! There are many I love to dance to…dance music makes me happy from the inside out.”
You admitted you cried when Kylie selected ‘Cupid Boy’ for her Aphrodite album. Why was it always such a desire to get a track written by you on her album?
“I’ve always admired her and thought she was total fabulosity…and when we heard the Swedish House Mafia backing track we track we fell in love with it so to write over it was an honour. I put myself into Kylie and felt her as we were writing this track so when she said she loved it and wanted it on her album I literally did do high kicks around my kitchen table…then fell on the floor and cried…very dramatic! x”
Looking at the list of forthcoming releases, it’s a wonder you have time to eat. The follow up to ‘I Like That’ entitled ‘When It Feels This Good’ has been signed to Vicious Aus and is coming out Down Under first – tell us about the track…
“It’s a track we did with Richard Visson who we co-wrote ‘I Like That’ with and it’s about being in that moment and just going with it and seeing where the night leads you…with no inhibitions..I love this track so much…it makes me get off my chair and move…it’s got that club dirt…I love club dirt.”
There is also ‘Bow Bow Bow’ with Bodyrox and Chipmunk currently flying high in the charts – that must have been a fun track to make…
“Well the guys and me have done lots of fun tracks together – I don’t see them as much as I like since I spend a lot of time in the US right now, but Bow Wow Wow is a continuation of the electro tracks we have had so much success with together…”
What is your greatest weakness?
“That’s gotta be being mindful. I am very much an ‘of the moment’ girl…so I’m often mindless and I’m aware to bring myself back to the moment and being ”mindful. I always say I’m consistantly inconsistant! I’m working on this…but this is my weakness definately. It’s also my strength oddly enough!”
Creating all of this fabulous dancefloor magic, when you get home at night, is music the last thing on your mind? What sort of artists do you like to chill to?
“I like silence…a lot of silence is good for the soul…I also love listening to old classics like Sarah Vaughn, Toni Bennet, Ella Fitzgerald etc. to make me feel like a Sunday morning…they chill my heart out…I like to do my housework listening to these kind of artists…I get lots done!”
Where is your favourite place to chill and party in Ibiza?
“To chill in Ibiza would be Blue Marlin and to party would be Space…”
You have been very busy on the writing tip, working with The Wanted and Little Mix in the UK, the writing never stops…
“I am at my happiest when I am writing – it’s my bread and butter – my writing partner Nick and I try really hard to get our heads into someone else’s vibe – it is a challenge but I like to give a little Luciana twist on stuff (oh dear I seem to have referred to myself in the third person…).”
Over in The States however it gets serious. Cheryl Cole, Nicole Sherzinger, WTF, Guetta and Black Eyed Peas all on the go. Who has been real fun to work with?
“There is a new young band called We The Future (WTF) – managed by Polo who manages the Peas – they are so young and fun and fresh and exciting – I feel like their big sis around them – there is a lot of excitement around them in the US – I think they will become massive – the new Peas!”
Have you ever got starstruck working with anyone?
“I think if I ever met Annie Lennox I’d crumble. She IS art to me x.”
How often do you actually get to see the producers you are working with on a track?
“Well with the internet and files sharing you don’t ever have to meet anyone if you don’t want to – we have our studio in LA and we get sent tracks every day to listen to from around the world – I have worked with some amazing people that I have never met but recently I like to be able to look people in the eyes and get a vibe of what they are about – you get happy accidents making music with people in the same room that would never have happened if you hadn’t met.”
What is the most A-List celeb event you have performed at, who was in the crowd?
“I think that was the Jingle Ball last Chrsitmas – Katy Perry, Peas, Bruno Mars…”
What is the best and worst thing about living in London?
“The best is London in the Summer…when the pubs are spilling out with people drinking Pimms and beer after work…the worst is London when it’s cold and damp…which is quite often, the chill gets to my bones and all I wanna do is stand next to a radiator and do nothing…I’m not good at being cold! Also the tube kills me – everyone seems to be so unhappy sitting there burying their heads in the free newspapers.”
How much of a ‘don’ was your dad back in Napoli?
“He is a total Don..The Don of All Dons from Donningham…I am in love with My Dad…he’s my whole point of reference. I adore him.”
What is the most important thing your parents taught you?
“My Dad taught me to dream and my Mum taught me to watch out for people trying to pull a fast one ! That’s the London in her!!!”
Not a lot of people know this, but I’m really good at…
“Doing the splits…”
What is the most expensive thing you’ve ever splashed out on?
“|Christopher Nemeth jeans. I’ve never washed them…they don’t fit me now! A La Roxx bodysuit. It’s fabulous x I wore it in the ‘Feels This Good’ video…”
You also have to fabulous Summer smashes on the way – ‘Guess What’ with Cazwell and ‘Something For The Weekend’ with Dave Aude and Isha Coco – what can you divulge about those two?
“Cazwell is my new crush…I’m gonna eat him when I see him..we are shooting the video soon…Isha Coco is my alter ego – the diva I never got to be!!! Let’s see what happens!!!”
And finally, what has been the proudest moment of your career to date?
Getting nominated for an Ivor Novello award for the track ‘Yeah Yeah’ with D.Ramirez and Bodyrox…it was a proud proud moment…and working with Betty Bloody White the Legend of all Legends…doing that video with her was definately a moment in time!”
