The Milan duo bringing the adrenaline to our dancefloors…
Interview : Dan Prince
Guys a massive welcome to DMCWORLD and congratulations on a stunning new single ‘Adrenaline’ which is being released on Hardwell’s Revealed imprint. Well where do we start? Tell us when the tune was created and whether you knew straight away you were sitting on a monster…
“Hi guys and thanks for having us! Well “Adrenaline” was produced months ago, before the summer. We were in the studio trying to create something new when, playing with the notes, we made a cool melody and Lush said “wow, we could try to do something with this”. So we did and…”Adrenaline” was born.”
How did you first get together as a production team?
“We have been friends from years back. We like the same music so we decided 3 years ago to join forces and work together. Everything works better thanks to the friendship between us.”
A great new remix from yourselves taking care of Osen & Baha’s ‘The Warrior’ swinging our way on Cr2 Records. Massive support from the likes of Tiesto and MYNC already…talk us through the rework…
“It has been really hard working on such a great track but we wanted to put some Lush & Simon style in that. And we think we did it. We started writing a new melody for the drop, new sounds, we wanted to do something melodic but at the same time powerful. Then we worked on a new break as well. And we must say we liked what came out.
How does the studio approach work for you…many producers work separately when in a duo, some leave certain areas to each other…what works for you?
“We work together. Sometime we start with a melody, a sound or a groove that one of us made, but then we work the rest of the song together in the studio and both of us bring in new ideas.”
What is the best and worst thing about living in Milan?
“Milan is a big multicultural city and this is the best thing. But at the same time it could be much better. Talent doesn’t pay like it should but this is an Italian problem, not only in Milan. This is the worst thing.”
What is the current top 10 you are spinning?
“At the moment we really like the remix by Mikkas of “Beautiful Life” by Armin Van Buuren, the remix by Otto Knows of “Starlight”, Flights 643 by John Christian, I AM by Sick Individuals and Axwell, “Tundra” by Merk & Kremont and Paris & Simo, the Botnek remix of “Easy” by Mat Zo and Porter Robinson, “Into the lights” by DubVision, Sander Van Doorn and MAKO, the remix by Zedd of “Alive” by Empire of the Sun and “Dynamite” by Quintino and MOTI.”
Do you ever argue over music?
“Always! Expecially over melodies. But when we start working on a new track everything is ok.”
What did your families think of your choice of career, did perhaps they want you to follow a more ‘sensible’ work path?
“They believe in us, they encourage us to follow our dreams. Without them we would not be anything.”
What is your earliest musical memory growing up?
“The sounds which came from guitars of “Radiohead”! We love that kind of sounds and in our song “City of Lights” we tried to use them.”
The first ever dance record that blew your mind…?
“We both love Daft Punk so we must say their second album “Discovery”. There are such beautiful songs like “One More Time”, “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, “Digital Love”. We are sure that every EDM fan love this album.”
What is coming out next from you release wise?
“After “Adrenaline” we have another tune that will be released later this year called “City Of Lights” that is already supported by Tiesto, Hardwell, Nicky Romero and MYNC. Then we have new collaborations, remixes,…it will be a busy end of the year!”
Early DJ heroes?
“The legendary Tiesto, Zedd and Porter Robinson.”
Tell us about Hardwell, what are his qualities that you respect?
“Hardwell is a great person and a great DJ. We do not know him personally but we can say that. A big DJ like him who spends time promoting new talents and young producers! It’s incredible!”
The last time you got absolutely drunk in a club?
“We drink and have fun, sure, but we don’t like to get drunk. We wanna enjoy music first and if you are sober you do better.”
Are you the sort of producers who can work whilst travelling, some guys can make a No. 1 record in their hotel bedroom…
“Working in your studio is the best thing for sure. You can write a melody, create a beat or an idea while you are on the way but you need your studio, your speakers, your gears to finish it.”
What is your guilty pleasure record, the song you love but really shouldn’t?
“It’s a funny and a hard question at the same time. Maybe the old hit by Eiffel 65 called “Blue”. Why do we like it? We do not know!!! Maybe the simple melody, that vocoder on the voice. We do not know why we like it!”
Who is the producer or singer you would really love to make a collab with?
“Porter Robinson, Zedd, W&W. They are such great producers!”
Tell us about the club scene in Milan, where is hot right now and who are some of the up and coming producers we should be looking out for?
“As we said before there are a lot of great clubs in Milan, but the thing is that talent does not always pay. And this is an Italian problem. It is a shame because we have a lot of great up and coming producers like Merk & Kremont, Delayers, Mindshake and many others talented guys. We are always trying to change things.”
And finally – if you could change 1 thing about each other what would it be?
“If we could change something we would change the laziness of Lush and the punctuality of Simon! Thank you guys for this interview! Keep following us on our social medias to be always in touch with us….”
