Martin Garrix

DMCWORLD grabs five minutes with the World’s No.1 DJ after another immense summer…

Martin a huge welcome back to DMCWORLD young man, where on planet earth are you right now?

I’m currently in Amsterdam where I’ve spent a lot of time in the studio to work on new music. Tomorrow I will be heading off to Abu Dhabi and Liverpool is next for the Cream Steel Yard event which will be awesome.

You land in different countries every week entertaining different clubbers with different tastes in music. Are any of your sets pre planned or do you just rock up and check the vibe?

Usually I know my intro, but then I always adjust my sets to the vibe that I’m getting from the crowd, so it’s always a surprise what I will play!

The Ibiza season has just put it’s closed sign up for another season, and what a summer it was for you with not one but two residencies. Let’s kick off with your night at new island superclub Hï Ibiza. Was it love at first sight with the venue for you and how did the summer go…?

Absolutely! Hï is such an amazing club and I love the atmosphere there. It’s such an intimate setting which really enables to connect with the audience on another level. We had a lot of variety in the line-up which meant that there were a lot of diverse musical styles. I’ve had one of the best summers to date. It’s amazing to have two residencies and I think I have gotten the chance to show two different sides of my myself and my music.

You also lined up at Ushuaia for your usual weekly mayhem. This place just gets better right? Why do you keep signing up season after season, what makes this venue so good for an artist to play at?

Ushuaia is so special to me. A couple of years ago I was in Ibiza and Swedish House Mafia were doing shows there and I sneaked in. I got kicked out by a security guard not long after, so it’s still crazy for me to have my own residency there now. Their stage is amazing and we had a new design this year that I was really proud of. Ushuaïa also has this cool festival vibe since the show is outdoors. Hï and Ushuaïa really differ from each other which makes it the best of both worlds actually!

What are you the most proudest of achieving in 2017?

That’s a really tough question since I’ve experienced so many amazing things again this year. First off we’ve had a crazy festival season with shows like Coachella, Lollapalooza, Ultra and Tomorrowland. I of course had my two amazing residencies in Ibiza at Hï and Ushuaïa and my Las Vegas residency at Omnia. Another great moment for me this year was playing two sold out nights in the Amsterdam RAI during ADE again. One of the shows was for all ages and it was so amazing to see all these young people who normally can’t go to my shows enjoy themselves to the fullest. And not to forget the music I worked on and the amazing collaborations I got to do with super talented people.

What is coming out next from you?

I have a lot of new Martin Garrix music for sure and I can’t wait to share it. Next to that we are releasing a lot of new music from cool artists on my label STMPD RCRDS.

And finally young man, Christmas is round the corner. What do you want from Santa this year?

It might sound a bit boring, but I don’t have anything specific in mind. I’m just looking forward to spending Christmas with my family.
