Interview by Ian Fleming

I see you have been busy in the studio recently. How excited are you about your new release ‘Show Me Love’ on your label ‘Mother Recordings’?

Hello DMC, I am super excited, the feedback so far is overwhelming and I cannot wait till next Monday holding this baby on vinyl as well, yeah.

How long ago did you start making music? Was there a certain point that suddenly made you think ‘making music is what I need to do’?

Music was always there, let´s say at that point when people started offering me money for DJing instead of chasing me around the club with a baseball bat.

How did Mother come about? What was the inspiration behind creating your own imprint?

We are a collective of friends and music aficionados from the foot of the Kreuzberg Mountain in Berlin and together we felt that the time was right to start our own thing. The actual impulse was to create a platform that gives us the freedom to release the music that we create, a sort of playground for friends that has taken the shape of an independent House label. Mother Recordings stands for a certain type of saviour and we’re definitely not another digital label. We continue to put out vinyl, even if it’s just to please the dinosaurs, hahaha… All of this is important to us and our fans are feeling it too. The feedback so far has been amazingly positive and that gives us the spur to raise the bar even further.

You as a producer have a very unique sound. Who or what would you say are your influences?

Quincy Jones, Prince, Rick Rubin, Dr. Dre and George Clinton.

How would you describe the sound you produce to someone who was unfamiliar with your music?

I always aim to transport a sparkling energetic vibe on the dancefloor. But my sound never really becomes too dark or introverted, me quite the positive thinking guy. I would describe my sound as feel good House!

And to create such a sound, what is your studio set-up? What did you use on ‘Show Me Love’.

Mac, Ableton, Fireface 400, Akai keyboard, KRK speakers and a mouse.

What’s your touring schedule been like recently? You were just in Guatemala for ‘Get Vicey’ which was held in a skatepark I see, how was that and what are your best memories of Guatemala?

Guatemala was aaamazing, the country is so beautiful and rich! The boys at Get Vicey were on point as well, very kind hosts and very generous. I met also Dennis Cruz at an after-party at the Secret Garden Club where we were DJing another set. But personally for me the most memorable moment was the day after, where I was DJing in Antigua for a secret open air party under an erupting volcano, 600 crazy backpackers went nuts to a sunrise set. That was sick, but also a bit scary. DJs living on the edge, hahaha…

What is the most memorable moment or set you’ve played when touring?

…oops, did I mention DJing while a volcano was erupting!

What’s your top 3 favourite tracks currently to play during your sets?

Lazaro Casanova – Calle Ocho

David Keno – Play

Basement Jaxx – Jump N Shout (Erik Hagleton Remix)

What do you have coming up for yourself and the label for 2017?

Our crew is really looking forward to the Mother Showcase at BPM Festival 2017. Cannot wait to hang with my boys Mat.Joe, David Keno and Superlover together in our apartment at Playa del Carmen, I smell trouble and lots of fun. Nothing better to cure your hangover with Ceviche and Micheladas, right? We are also preparing our 5 years anniversary compilation, which will be a double CD release with a lot of co-operations, coming next spring. Personally, I am very excited to be touring again Mexico in January and the next US tour is lining up as well, good times! Thanks for the interview!
