Point Point

Initially based in Paris and now living in Los Angeles, Point Point are known for their futuristic sound that has received strong support from leading artists such as DJ Snake, Skrillex, and Diplo. Made up of Aazar, Nömak aka ö, and Devoted, Point Point released ‘Hands’ earlier this year featuring UK singer Denai Moore and have just collaborated with fellow Parisian electronic producer Pyramid on ‘Serious Mood’. DMC caught up with the trio for a chat…

Hi Point Point, how are things with you and what have you been up to these days?

Hey, all good, thanks. We are on tour all around the US during November and December. We are also working a lot in the studio.

How did the collaboration with Pyramid on your latest release, ‘Serious Mood’ come about?

Pyramid is our long-time friend.  We were in a studio in Paris and we started jamming together, then ‘Serious Mood’ was born. The track is almost fully live writing. We’ve tried so many edits, so many mixes, but the funny thing is nothing was better than the first jam, so we kept it.

Do you have any other collaborations coming up that you can tell us about?

We are not doing a lot of collaborations, to be honest. ‘Serious Mood’ is only our third one (after San Holo and Denai Moore). We are pretty picky but open to any suggestions.

You are initially from Paris but now live in LA. How would you compare audiences and the electronic music scene in both cities?

Most of the music industry lives in LA now. There is a unique vibe there which helps the creativity. If you want to collab with a singer or a producer, you can be sure that he/she is in LA or he/she will be there very soon. Things are going faster in LA and we have to say that some people from the industry are more open-minded and enthusiastic to create together. Electronic music is essential in both cities, but the market in California is more significant.

What was the inspiration for your previous release, ‘Hands’?

Hard to say. We didn’t have real inspirations; we just mixed all our musical backgrounds (house, hip-hop, with some pop chords and the beautiful voice of Denai). We loved the result and the vibe of this track, so we keep going!

What was it like to play at Tomorrowland this summer?

A dream coming true. We used to watch the streaming four years ago in our bedrooms. Tomorrowland is a world apart and we are really proud to have played there.

Which other festivals or venues would you like to play at?

Coachella, Osheaga, Panorama, Electric Forest. We probably forget some though.

What can people expect from Point Point in 2018?

More music, more shows, more everything and some surprises.

How do Point Point relax on days off from producing and DJing?

Spending time with people we love, cooking, watching TV shows, playing soccer and reading. Pretty basic stuff which allow us to take a breath.
