Seb Fontaine

Probably London’s coolest DJ who sends every dancefloor crazy, opens up about his past…

You’re off to DJ in India this month. Have you played there before? We hear the country is rocking at the moment?
“I can’t wait to get over there, everyone has great things to say about India . It’s the one country that I am truly desperate to get to so I’ll let you know what it was like .”

And what about the US, you’re huge over there…
“I certainly love Miami, but Denver, Chicago and LA always rate highly in my books…”

Malibu Stacey. A legendary club you owned – what are your best memories from one of the finest 90s clubs we’ve seen?
“Ha ha where do I start with Malibu Stacey. So many funny nights. Although, I do prefer music to be a little serious, I do miss how much fun the clubscene was in those days and how much effort went into clubbing. I still have a wardrobe full of ridiculous clothes – hats, wigs, false mustaches and all kinds of stuff . Very good days .”

What have you got coming up on the production tip?
“I have been reasonably busy of late and have a new ‘Seb and Jay P ‘ single and a new Reflekt single as well as a remix of Golden Girls ‘Kinetic’ all about to hit soon.”

You travel the world DJing, what DJs have you seen out there in 2008 that you can give props to?
“There’s a DJ in Denver that I love playing with called Sir Thomas, an up and comer, also two guys that always impress me when I hear them play who are Audiofly – just fantastic.”

Now Chelsea Football Club. Bit of an obvious team to support eh? Which players have you meeted and greeted?
“You can’t help who you support and Chelsea certainly weren’t the obvious choice when I was 7 – and my hero was a six foot six bearded mountain of a man by the name of Micky Droy. I have met a few players, but mostly from the older teams – the new boys are kept away from the likes of us now, although I did meet Peter Bonnetti the other day over dinner, a very nice man.”

I spent a night out with you in Holland at the MTV Awards playing Jenga until silly o clock in some dodgy hotel – a little wasted to say the least (I still have flashbacks). What has been your craziest ever night out on the disco tiles?
“Wow there’s a question with so many answers . The funny thing is, I kind of thought that the best of my ‘silly o’clock days’ were behind me until recently when I stumbled out of a secret members bar at 9am after bartending to various degenerates. Roll on the good old days, Jenga anyone?”

What is your big tune of the moment on your decks?
“My big tune is Mark Knight and Funkagenda – ‘Arena’.”

And finally, what classic record never leaves your box?
“Simple one, one of the many re-rubs of French Kiss . Still as haunting and as hypnotic as ever…”
