King Solomun getting set for another Diynamic summer
Interview : Dan Prince
Welcome back to DMCWORLD young man, where on planet dance are you today?
“Today Dan I am in the beautiful city of Vienna in Austria on the way to Istanbul. I am with my friend and label-mate H.O.S.H. on our Back2Back-tour.”
You rocked Stereo in Montreal for five hours at the weekend until stomach pains kicked in, aside from the illness, what did you think of the club?
“I heard lots of great stories about this club and I have to confess that everything I heard was true. Amazing club, amazing crowd, great sound system, very nice promoter. I will definitely come back to make it up, because I seriously wanted to play more than 5 hours there…next time, guys!”
Next week sees the release of your brand new ‘Samson’ EP, talk us through the new record…
“’Samson’ is a little more an experiment with a more broken beat and then a classical opera voice. ‘Medea’ is a really techy dark trippy tune that I love to play everywhere actually. And I have to say that I was really proud that ‘Medea’ made it into the Beatport Techno-Charts, haha.”
Well that was the week that was! One of the craziest Miami WMC/Ultra events we have had for a long time! What were some of your highlights, apart from the monsoon!!!!
“Well yes, I didn’t actually get to play at the Ultra Music Festival because when I was supposed to start the hard rain started and the smaller stages had to close. Highlights were of course our Diynamic showcase at Space – almost 18 hours of the Diynamic sound, great! Then I also played in a smaller venue together with Guy Gerber where Wyclef Jean came into the booth and sang to one of my new tracks. This was a really great feeling! And last but not least: The Last Resort party! This was really big fun.”
ADE and BPM put on two magnificent events in recent months…is Miami still the king though?
“Miami is Miami, it’s eclectic and established. I don’t think in terms of “this is king and this is only the prince”, but we have been at the BPM festival this year for the first time and it’s hard to compare this festival with others because in Mexico, they only play our music – no big stages sound, no EDM, it is so unique.”

Back home in Germany you sponsor the young H.E.B.C. footballers … do I suspect you were once a wannabe footballer in your youth?
“Oh yes Dan! When I was younger I was selected to play for my home city team Hamburg and I was doing well and was super enthusiastic about playing football. I had around 6 years of experience and by the age of 16 all the doors were open for me…but then I lost interest in playing sports. HEBC is the club where I used to play and that’s why I am more than happy to support the kids.”
So the big question on everyone’s lips right now is what have you got planned for Ibiza, you have departed Sankeys over the winter, does that mean it will be Pacha all of the way this summer?
“Yes, I am focusing all my attention on my Solomun+1 residency, but will also play “Diynamic Outdoor” from time to time. This is something I am so excited about, to take Diynamic to the next level playing under the stars with everyone dancing by moonlight!”
Was it a wrench leaving the Sankeys team after two glorious summers?
“After a few successful years working with Sankeys Ibiza we thought it would be time for a new adventure…because we love building up new things. Shortly after we split with Sankeys the guys from Amnesia asked if we would be up for a new venture at the beautiful outdoor venue Cova Santa. We went and had a look and said yes straight away! We will have eight parties there every Tuesday starting July 22nd from late afternoon until midnight and then move into a small club at the venue for the after party.”
What is coming out next from your mighty DiYnamic label…
“’Thyladomid will come out with an album, Uner also with album remixes and also a new label cooperation concept – everybody from the Diynamic family will do a track with another member, this is gonna be big fun I am sure.”
Where have some of the stand out gigs been for you over the winter, have you discovered any new favourite territories and clubs?
“There are a lot, too many to name them all! But recently D_Clubin Lausanne was big fun and Hardpop in Juarez,Mexico was a real thriller.”
And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?
“In the next weeks there will be released a remix I did for Lana del Rey, and in July another EP with the name ‘Friends’.”
