One of the house music’s most flamboyant characters, the enigmatic Sandy Rivera launches this year’s Soul Heaven summer season on Saturday May 31st. What’s one thing that any first time visitor to Ibiza should experience and why?
“If you can, visit all the legendary clubs that have made Ibiza what it is so you can get a good feel for them all. Check the line ups and choose according to what you like to party to…it will be a great experience. And that’s before you pick up on the after parties…”
What is your best Ibiza memory…?
“The general vibe to Ibiza as a whole was fantastic 10 years ago and I would go out a lot and want to be out all the time. That energy is now starting to kick back in as the sound is gets back to some good house music again, as it was lost for a few years and for me that’s what makes Ibiza even better.”
What makes this island such a special place?
“It’s the summer season on an island with friends and the world’s finest DJs to party with. Add some additional bits in and you’re in for a fantastic time. I keep mentioning clubs and music because you can go to so many other islands around the globe with no real club culture or events and sit back and say “I wish this was more like Ibiza”.
You must have had the odd lost weekend on the island?
“Yes, yes I have. I ended up in the back of trunk with a friend and we hitched a ride into Ibiza Town from some place near the airport, trying to get to a house party before running to Bora Bora to keep the moment going. Not really sure why we never just called a cab?”
What is your favourite place to escape the crowds there?
“Some nice quiet untouched beaches in the north of the island..I’m not saying where as then they won’t be so untouched!”
Your Ibiza tipple?
“Vodka and Red Bull seems to be what I end up getting most of time. If I am with my wife she wants to go the beach and get some sun, so I follow her and that keeps me from missing my flights.”
Best beach?
“Salinas is a great place to get started with some sangria.”
Ibiza anthem?
“Funkagenda & Mark Knight’s ‘Man With The Red Face’. It sits in middle of every thing and has no vocals. But in all honesty there are so many to choose from…”

“The nearest bar…”

“Cafe Mambo for sure…”

“I would have no clue, it’s usually a liquid breakfast for me in Ibiza…”
