Tony Garcia has been a key name on the Sydney House scene for over two decades. As a DJ he has performed at all of Australia’s premier venues. His music has graced labels such as Motive Records, Souluxe Record Co., Turtle Wax, Merecumbe Recordings, Hive Records and Hot Sunday, among others. He launched Vagrant Soundz with Jay B McCauley earlier this year, releasing a slew of incredible tracks already featuring Terri B!, Jerry Ropero, Eric Kupper, MicFreak, Rubber People and more. As his new collaborative cover of Gwen Guthrie’s classic, ‘Peanut Butter’ with Kylie Auldist drops on the label, DMCWorld goes Trainspotting with Tony Garcia.
Kylie Auldist and Tony Garcia – Peanut Butter (Tony’s Deep Spread Original Recipe) – Vagrant Soundz
I originally had this as an edit of the original by Gwen Guthrie from the legendary Padlock EP but Jay B encouraged me to cover it with Melbourne’s queen of soul and funk Gwen Guthrie. She is the voice behind the billion-streaming hit by Kungs ‘This Girl.’ I jumped at the chance to add some dynamic keys and smooth basslines to showcase her vocals. The whole package is dynamite with Eric Kupper and MicFreak providing remixes that will work in any environment.
I always love to see musicians in full flight and with this remix by Atjazz you really get to hear the complexity of artists at play. Featuring some outstanding South American flautist work, this track is full of South American flavours which are dear to my heart.
Dave Lee ft Billy Valentine – Power Of The Mind (Power Trip Mix) – Z Records
What can be said about Dave Lee that has not been said before? Incredibly intelligent and always going the extra mile to deliver tracks that shape the industry, Power of The Mind has the added bonus of Billy Valentine on vocals who delivers an exceptional performance.
Low Steppa – Closer (Original Mix) – Simma Black
Deep, luxurious with a vocal hook that gets the dancefloor jumping, this has been providing some serious heat on the dance floor of late. The drop just sets the tune up so nicely and when the beat hits, its hands in the air time.
Dennis Ferrer, Sllash & Doppe – P 2 Da J (Sllash & Doppe Extended Remix) – Street King
Street King have always been a phenomenal label and this time they let Tech House giants Sllash & Doppe loose on Dennis Ferrer’s P2 Da J. The bass bounces in all the right places and is a worthy reboot of the maestro.
DJ Wady, Afroloko – Dice -Nervous
This is a top slice of Afro induced Latin infused Tech. The percussion on this is so addictive and weaves constantly throughout the track. Firm favourite of mine from a label that needs no introduction.
Oyobi, QVLN, Coflo – Me Voy (Coflo Remix) – Atjazz Record Company
There is so much to admire about this track. An addictive groove that once again features musicians that have created a special bond with their art. Coflo has been on fire of late and this is perfect for early doors as they set the tone for the joy that is to come.
Black Sonix, Sean McCabe – Danny’s Jam (Sean McCabe Moody Dub) – Good Vibrations Music
Sean McCabe has been a constant companion of mine throughout my musical journey. There is something special Bristol’s water that produces musicians that add so much texture to the beat. Working with Black Sonix aka Justin Stride, the Moody Dub has that space and energy to really elevate a set.
Wearing Shoes – Snap Ya Fingas – Soulstar Records
Off of his outstanding EP Behind The Scenes, Italian producer Wearing Shows has been on my radar for a while now. This is rich luxurious and deep and hits the sweet spot with a casual vocal that swings invitingly through the mix.
Dam Swindle – All I Want – Heist Recordings
They may have changed their name but their musical productions remain the same… exceptional. Off their EP Keep On Swindling Pt. 1, this is a thumper. The vocal breakdown is sensational and hits the high points with an oh so solid groove.
Kylie Auldist & Tony Garcia ‘Peanut Butter’ (Incl. Eric Kupper and MicFreak Mixes) is out now on Vagrant Soundz.
