The lady behind super Club Pacha in London…

Gemma, working for the biggest club brand in the world. What has been the proudest moment when the dancefloor was heaving when you just thought…yeah!
“Its been lately actually since we made the recent changes. We’ve had some great moments with Danny Tenaglia and Erick Morillo at the club, however recently I wanted to take Pacha up a gear. We’ve installed a new Martin Audio sound system (the same as in Fabric) and are constantly looking at more improvements we can make with the club including some interesting changes to the interior decor.”

Where did you grow up, what was on your stereo getting into this world?
“I grew up in North London, if I told you what was on my stereo back then I would loose all my street cred!”

Pacha is just unbelievable. Ibiza, New York, London, Barcelona…I could go on and on and on. Just simply some of the best venues in the world. But let’s talk about your venue in London, just about to celebrate it’s 7th Birthday in January. Many people, and I have to be honest with you here, many people thought the location wasn’t right – maybe the brand deserved somewhere more salubrious. Also, you took your time getting away from obvious ‘member’s styled’ nights to cooler club nights that Pacha has been associated with for decades. Why was that? Surely Pacha is about the music and the image? Why did it take so long…?
“It’s a good question. At the time we also owned The Cross, The Key and Canvas and tried to make a clear division between the clubs musically. With Pacha we have tried many different directions and are constantly refining what Pacha London is about. Realistically, the image of Pacha doesn’t translate to London and we have tried. The cosmopolitan “cognoscenti” are always going to be in the West End in London and dance music is not the force it is around the world in. We feel our direction reflects the scene here in London.”

Who have been the best DJs at Pacha in London over the years?
“Well the obvious I guess, David Guetta, Danny Tenaglia and Erick Morillo have rocked Pacha London over the past years and expect more surprises as the year unfolds…”

What are you looking forward to the most at the 7th Birthday?
“Tim Sheridan is always a really welcome guest for us at Pacha London. He really knows his way around a soundsystem and we are looking forward to him getting on the new rig. It’s been about a year since he last played the club and the Pacha crowd love him!”

Who are you most scared of getting leathered, DJs Tommy Mac or Tim Sheridan?
“lol – we expect both to provide interesting entertainment…”

What will 2009 at Pacha London bring us?
“We want to bring in more international events. We always want to stay away from what the other clubs are doing and carve a niche for Pacha London. Plans are top secret at the moment but expect more interesting collaborations.”

Best DJ at Pacha London in 2008?
“Axwell by far!”

Biggest tune at Pacha London 2008?
“Erick Prydz – Pjanoo”

What do you think is the best Pacha in the world? – London and Ibiza apart!
“It’s difficult to say, I think all the Pacha’s reflect the country and the people where they are…”

Is Pacha the biggest nightclub movement in the world? The owners could take over the music world if they wanted…?
“The phenomenon of Pacha just keeps growing and shows no signs of stopping. Ibiza are the fathers of the movement and when we hear of some of the things they are planning it seems like world domination is on the cards…”
