She’s So Stylus…
Our Girl Rebekah

“Halloween out in clubland over last weekend saw everyone donning silly outfits on their nights out, from the usual slutty vampires to the more ambitious versions of Beetlejuice, the lamest outfit, if you could call it that, was a guy who applied a tiny amount of red paint underneath his nose… well I think it was paint!  You know you are getting old when your younger brother out does you when it comes to music.  For the past few months I have been introducing him into the world of dance, breaking him in with some electro and tech house before moving him into more underground sounds. He now has his own disco room (which I am completely envious of with electric shutters over the windows to cast darkness whatever time of day, a booming sound system, mirror ball and a freaking laser beam – gosh at his age I would have been happy with a Walkman… hmmm how things have changed. The Deadmau5 CD I have given him has been going down well with him and his buds, next year I’m going to get him started on the decks.

I flew out to Tallinn in Estonia a few days ago, I was shocked to see how many stag parties are still on the Baltic trail. The flight was at 06.50 am and the guys all started on the liquor with the poor air hostesses having to laugh at their lame jokes and keep them entertained. Thankfully, the club I played at was not hot on the list for the large Stag Packs, it was easy to see why they go there. Upon arriving into the city there is just a huge amount of blondes everywhere – and oh my word they are stunningly beautiful. Boys, forget going for a stag do there, just move there! The Club Prive is a beautiful venue with decadent glamour and high ceilings, they have House and Techno music from international guests every Friday ranging from ‘Defected’ parties, Chicago House legends through to huge Techno artists such as Juan Atkins and Josh Wink. Eating out is a wonderful experience and is really cheap too, for a weekend break Tallinn does have it all. Laura White leaving the X Factor, can you believe it? She was by far my favourite and now I am completely gutted and feel let down, refusing to watch it ever again….well until next year when the ridiculously funny auditions are held. Just hoping Laura will get signed and make a lovely jazz album to suit her wonderful voice. I loved her quirky style in the auditions and always feel overwhelmed when she starts signing, for some reason I get emotional upon encountering talented people. “

My top 3 tunes this week

1. Dark Chambers – De Ja Vue – CSGas Records
Fellow Birmingham based producer Dark Chambers has been bubbling under for the last couple of years getting better and better, this is deep techno with a dark surreal vocal, with an almost eastern influence.

2. Tony Blunt – Is Gonna Be your Night (Swat Squad Secret Mix) – Pulsewith
Love Swat Squads productions and have this is no exception, deep groovy percussive techno at its best.

3. Stavostrand & Skugge – Medean – Gastspiel
Bleepy rolling minimal which just builds and builds.
