DMC Bigs Up
Tom Novy

You’re from Munich, what were the first clubs you went to when you were growing up, what DJs made you smile, and how old were you when you went to your first club?
“The first club I went to was ‘Rock In’ in Munich – I was 16! Sven Väth always makes me smile in the way he loves his music and audience, no one has that.
I remember being in a club around 1995 when your Jungle Brothers ‘I House U’ cover came out of the speakers. I nearly fell out of my trainers. A great tune huh with your own lyrics included!
“Well I always like to put some vocals in, I did it on following hits as well. Thank god you and a few other party people liked it!”

‘Superstar’, ‘I Rock’, ‘Pumpin’, ‘Lovin U’, ‘Your Body’ – your tunes have hit the top of so many countries around the world. What have been your favourites?
“I don’t have a favourite – every track reminds me of really cool days.”

Which clubs that you have rocked around the world stand out as favourites?
“Well there are a few, but since I’m a resident at Space, there – I really adore that club! “

When you come home from a club at 4am and just wanna sit down in your living room with a glass of wine, what CDs gets put on?
“I listened to the new Bedrock CD the other day, it’s fantastic.”

What German DJs/producers should we watch out for soon?
“Jerome Isma-ae and Orlie & Martie”.

You’ve had a bit of a strange production trail… progressive house, then you hooked up with Eniac and moving onto a Chicago-style garage house sound. Adrian Misiewicz of DJ Manga fame came along next…
“Well being an artist you have to reinvent yourself often otherwise you get bored I think.”

What tunes are bringing big beats to your heart in your box at the moment?
“There are a lot of new tracks out there, but I would especially love to play more soulful records. I play a bit of everything nowadays; I think that keeps the vibe alive in the club.”

What’s the club scene like in Germany at the moment?
“It’s OK! Everyone thinks Berlin is the shit, but I think we have better clubs and a much nicer crowd every whereelse in Germany. Clubs like Cocoon, Tribehouse and Match are representing Germany big time.”

You’ve been a TV Presenter hosting such shows as The Dance Floor Charts, Streetlife, Battle of the DJ’s and Nightlife on MTV – as well as the Mac Chart-Show on Pro 7. I shitted my pants when I had to present my first TV show – no nerves your end?
“Show no shame!”?
