***ALBUM OF THE WEEK*** – VARIOUS ARTISTS – KERN VOL.3 MIXED BY OBJEKT – TRESOR

This is something rather special, a cracking mix from Objekt of 36 tracks that does the very simple job of introducing tracks he intends to play for years to come. The fact the exclusives and rarities are added to the package in the form of a 12” is great, but it’s the DJ mix itself that will really leave you hooked. Objekt – aka TJ Hertz – works a very fine line between the elegance of tracks like Shanti Celeste’s ‘Light’, the rolling beats to Birdland’s cracking ‘Can U Dance To My Beat?’ and the mixture of lush sounds, acidic riff and powerful break beats that make up Pollon’s ‘Lost Souls’, What left me spellbound though is the two places in the mix where he literally leaves the listener hanging, pausing atmospherically with Anna Caragnano & Donato Dozzy’s ‘Love Without Sound’ and then again with Ondo Fudd’s ‘Blue Dot’, which features a floated jazz horn in isolation. It is daring stuff but works incredibly well, especially when Objekt is using tracks like Echo 106’s ‘100M Splutter’ a piece of Twilight Zone-aping electronic brilliance. This is the most original and effective techno mix in a long time, and demands to be heard.
